Just test drove a 2008 Versa SL w/ CVT becuase I'm looking to buy one. I defiantly need auto so its between a regular automatic or the CVT. Anyhow, I was "punching it" on the highway so I can see what types of speed I can get. I hit 130ish and it had a hard time going higher. I think this might be because of the CVT but I don't know. Anyone out there with a CVT that has "punched it" and gotten good top speeds? Also, what do you guys think about the CVT. Is it work $1300?

Thanks guys! If all goes well I'll be a new Versa SL owner!

Also I'd like to say "eff you" on behalf of the poor guy who buys the SL you test drove. I'm sure that was REAL GOOD for the engine's break in.

The CVT is worth the money. It will save you money on gas and does improve the performance. It also means you don't have an annoying jump between gears in a typical AT. I've been up to 140km/h without any problems, this car's not built for racing, but it will allow you to pass on the highway.

Most cars are regulated at 130 MPH. At least the CVT can get up that fast, the 6-speed is geared WAY too short for that.

WTF were you doing going that fast on a public highway, anyway?

Knock it off.

When we leave out where we're posting from, it easy to misinterpet the info.

Well, the $1300 difference is not entirely CVT. For that $1300 you would also get the alloy wheels, steering mounted audio/cruise controls and a 6-disk changer, if those things matter to you.

Yes, my bad I did leave out that info. I don't usually post on car forums and I forget about specifying metrics.

I was traveling 130 KM/h and no I don't race nor do I care to. I was told by the sales guy to "punch it" and so I did and that's the max I got. I don't know why so that's why I'm asking for what everyone else got. There's really no need to be rude. :P

The CVT in Canada is optional on the S and the SL. It costs 1300 and doesn't come with anything but the transmission. I don't get any special perks for getting the CVT like wheels or such. Hoever a decked out (stock) 1.8S cost 1000 cheaper then a base stock 1.8SL. There is $1000 difference between the two models and for that you get 6 disk changer, center armrest and a car alarm. I care not for the disk changer an after market alarm costs about $150 and as does a screw on center arm rest. But Again, I dunno. Might be worth it just so I don't have to worry about getting all that other crap installed after.

Anyone know the weight of the stock rims on the SL?

There are more differences between the SL and S than that. On the 2007 model, the fabric of the seat and walls was different. There was a map light on the SL and not the S, the arm rest was included, cover for the driver mirror. The SL is just a little nicer of a car. I appreciate these small luxuries.

Try to test drive the car again, I found the first time I test drove mine that it had poor acceleration as I was going up a hill. I drove it again and had no such issues. It may come down to the way you drive it and what you're use to driving. It doesn't have a big engine so sometimes you due have to press hard on the gas to really get up to speed. In driving it for a year, I never found issue with the acceleration or top speed.

Your very quick to jump to very very imaginary conclusions aren't you? 130 mph? Are you serious? When have you ever heard any Versa owner even getting close to 130 mph. As soon as I read it and it just said 130 I thought 2 things.

1. He's from Canada so he means 130 KM/h which is 80mph, which in no way shape or form needs to be taken to the "track" 2. If he does mean 130 mph then he is lying, because 1. he would need a VERRRRY long open road to even get close to that and 2. I think the Versa tops out at around 120 something mph.

So lets not be so quick to jump to very rash conclusions because going 80 mph is perfectly fine for highway speeds.

I guess I just need to step on it. It was hard getting use to the CVT coming from a regular auto. Thanks again for all that replied!

My wife has an S with 4 spd and I have an SL with CVT. Personally, it wouldn't have bothered me if my SL only had the 4 spd. I would have gone with an S but liked all the features of the sport and tech packages.

Easy way to tell if the person is from Canada or not: look at the profile.

Anyone driving a V on the 401 can tell you that 130 KMH is not much -- you'll get run over going that slow!

Actually, when my wife drove ours home from the dealership she had it 140 without a problem -- well, it was a problem because there was a possibility of radar!

CDN version of SL includes wheels, upgrade CD, upgrade seats, 6-way front seat, armrest, map light, a few other minor touches, and the all-important SL badge on the back of the car.

Well worth it, btw -- spend the money. Then go for the CVT as well.

I'da taken the sports package except you need to order the convenience package as well (didn't care about it) and didn't want the sunroof.

spend the $$$!

[edit: the CVT should not top out at 130]

I have a 2007 SL hatchback in an autmomatic (without the CVT). I am told that they made a few of them in the beginning. I just bought it with 19,758 on it (it has 20,115 now). I got 31.9 mileage first tank city/highway.

Actually I just threw that into my profile after I created this topic to avoid future confusion. lol But thanks. I actually only want the sunroof and I don't care about all those other features. It really a shame that I can't a sunroof on its own. Oh well.

I agree that its pointless to spend $900 on a bluetooth and sat radio package that I will never use just so I can "qualify" for the sport package. I find that ridiculous. Oh well.

130 km/h, no. 130 mph, yes. The transmission probably has the gearing to go faster than that, but I doubt that the car has enough power to get up there.. and if it does, Nissan probably regulated it for safety.

Doesn't the SL come with a leather wrapped steering wheel as well? I have that but I don't know if it came on any special package I got.

Only if you have the convenience package. For that matter, someone mentioned audio controls on the wheels... that is ALSO onl on the convenience package.

I have an SL with just ABS, and my steering wheel is urethane, with no audio controls. Just cruise.

I like my Automatic, I am however confused by my vehicle. The salesman told me it was an SL. The purchase agreement states that it is an SL. The car was advertised as an SL, But no SL badge! When I look it up on Car Fax with the VIN, the report on the car states that it is a Versa S/SL. I have cruise control, 6 disc changer, MP3, power windows, mirrors, locks etc... no tire pressure gauge (thank god). So this is what I'm curious about. Is this a Versa S with a convience package? Would a salesman lie? I have always had the utmost trust in car salesman! I'd hate to have to go back there and put a James Brown on him. :

wtf

IMO if it doesn't say SL on the car it aint a SL. even if it is a S with a package, its still an S and should be advertised as such. "S with ... package" I strongly recommend going back and having the guy break it down for ya. Never trust a car salesman on the job, they are ruthless to no end.

Funny . . . I wanted the other features and didn't want the sunroof, so went without anything.

For $58 I got a Dual CD HD broadcast with a Bluetooth adapter at Best Buy on clearance. Came with a remote, USB and IPod connector on the front. I can store 350 songs on my thumb drive. CD's are pretty much obsolete, who needs a 6 disk changer?

I think an intervention is needed here. Maybe a 12 step program would help. I had a Lear 8-Track back in 68. Cost a fortune. Cassettes saved me from having to replace those lousy 8-track tapes on a regular basis.

Early '07's had no badges, S or SL. They weren't ready and in stock at the factory when production began. They didn't start showing up until the November 2006 production revision.

If your Versa was built for the US, you have TPMS... ALL US-spec Versas have that.

However, you said "Automatic" and SL in the same sentence, which indicates you MAY have a Canadian-spec Versa. there are some early '07 Canadian spec Versas whose odometers were accidentally calibrated in miles, not kilometers. This would be the only explanation as to why I can think of you not having a TPMS system given your location.

Easiest way to tell if you have an SL is the seat fabric. If it's a sueded fabric, it's an S. If it's a flat woven cloth, it's an SL. I don't know anyone who has gone to the trouble/expense of putting an SL interior in an S, so it's a pretty safe bet.
