So this weekend was the first endurance race for the team I work for at buttonwillow
only 3 hours long, from 6:10 to 9:10 pm.
about 4 laps in, transmission broke and was stuck in fourth.
Still managed first place in class, and iirc 11th overall out of 28 while being in the slowest class.
A few of our competitors had transponder/timing mishaps that put them a lap or two up in the live timing and scoring info we had. Even still we were potentially in position to secure first by a few seconds until we got hung up in traffic, and with out gears the gap back to the competitors closed quick. In the last 30-40 minutes 2 cars in class caught up and passed us on track. In the last 15 minutes timing and scoring fixed the lap count for the car ranked 2nd in class, showing correctly that he was behind us, and then about 7 minutes before the end the lap count for the car ranked 1st in class was fixed, confirming that he was behind us as well.
Even stuck in one gear we were able to match times with some in class, and were only 3-5 seconds a lap behind the faster cars in class. We were able to pull one pit stop, and even having to push the car to get it up to a fast enough speed to start in 4th, we managed ~100 seconds from car stopped to release dumping 10 gallons of fuel from unpressurized hand held jugs, doing a driver change and fixing a small radio issue.
Was a damn good race, and definitely one of the most satisfying wins we have had. There may have been a beer or two afterwards....
