spec v downshift noise

i have a friend who recently bought a used b15 spec vthe car is clean and well taken care of, or so it seemsthe only problem with the car is that it does this weird scratchy (not so much grinding) noise sometimes when he downshifts and thats the only time it makes that noise is when it downshifts and it isnt a constant thing either has anybody else had this problem before? if so whats the fix?

Probably just the syncro spinning up. Does he rev match? Any idea about the previous owner?

no he doesnt rev match at all that i know for surewell he looked into that before he bought the carfirst owner was a young guy who had it for 4 or 5 monthsand the second owner was middle aged dude; family mancar is a complete virgin too, its all stock, probably the biggest reason he decided to get it
