Hi everyone, first time poster here so...***potential stupid question alert***

Just bought my Versa and I'm looking into replacing the speakers as I notice they sound muffled. I've looked into past posts so that has helped quite a bit. However, I do need opinions on what to get. I'm not into vibrating door panels or high volume loud enough to be heard 2 cars over - all I need is for my music to be heard clearly. I listen to film scores (instrumental music) and I also listen to rock, alternative, and the radio quite frequently. I currently have the Dark Knight score in my CD player if that means anything to anyone.

I'm looking at Sony speakers on sale at Best Buy for $49.99/pair http://www2.wiremagic.com/fitguide/bestbuy/ and the deck is about $100 with iPod connection http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/...id=EN

My question is, is that a good enough set up for a nice crisp sound. Do I really need to replace the deck? I like the stock setup but I've seen posts about problems with speakers getting little sound and bass.

There's another package from Future Shop:http://www.futureshop.ca/catal...02881I probably won't need the sub or the amplifier but it seems like a good deal.

What do you think? Any advice would be great. Thanks in advance.

When looking to upgrade the stereo and speakers in the car, the decks power output is important if you are not going to amplify the speakers... You will not notice a difference with 45W/speaker with the stock versa speakers, however If you decided to upgrade them spend a little more money on something that has the potential to be amplified in the future, might cost 50$ more now, but then you won't have to buy new speakers if you decide to amp them later.

As for the deck, stay away from Sony.. Alpine and Pioneer make much better products as far as I am concerned.

That package you mentioned come with a 10 inch sub.. what kind of music do you listen to? I assume this package comes with a sealed box, which will be good for rock and metal, but for rap and techno you will want a ported box... which will cost more money.

If you are looking for clear sound more then bass go and amp a good set of speakers and get a decent deck. If your looking at that package I assume your budget is around 400-500$ which can get you something decent. Look around, and don't be afraid to get quotes... car audio always has wiggle room to get a better deal.

Best of Luck,

Dan

i have an Alpine CDA-9886 headunit... which i LOVE.. but its about 300. I also have Infinity Reference 6022i's all around. and they sound amazing. really wide range... i would really suggest the infinities, because they are some of the most clear sounding speakers out there. alpine makes a comparable speaker, but theyre a lot bassier and not as clear.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I went to Future Shop today and the guy actually recommended the Infinity 6022i. They're on sale for $99.99/pair http://www.futureshop.ca/catal...id=EN. I might have to switch out the deck only because mine doesn't play MP3. I tried 2 different MPs on CD and no sound came out. I'm looking into this Pioneer deck http://www.futureshop.ca/catal...id=EN with the Infinity speakers. Is that a good enough setup?

rdworks: I listen to a lot of instrumental music, movie soundtracks - just the music, not the songs so there are some fairly good range from treble to bass.

pioneer makes a decent headunit. the infinities will sound really good.. believe me.. but if i amped them, they would sound amazing...they sound really good up until like vol. of 20... after that they kinda diminish, but thats because there isnt an amp. (my headunit goes up to only like 30 i think... but they still get really loud)

Whether you're using an amp or not, I recommend the new Pioneer D-series speakers. Look in to the TS-D1720C or TS-D720C. Both the exact same speaker, just one carries Pioneer's "Premier" moniker.

And definitely get a Pioneer, Kenwood, or even JVC HU over Sony.

Oh, and I would NOT recommend Best Buy or any other big box retailer for your car audio needs.. especially installation.

Yeah I made the mistake of letting them run the wires to my sub, which was already installed in a ported box with the amp attached. When I picked it up they had blown the sub..The sub was 3 months old and only actually had two weeks of use in my truck before it broke down. They were real quick to try and sell me a replacement,,,, for the part THEY broke.

Lol, yeah they will do a lot of that... but in some crazy world I blew my Alpine sub which I had purchased at Visions.. So I called them up (I didn't have extended warrenty or anything) and told them my problem. The guy on the phone tells me to bring it down, so I do and they have a brand new sub waiting for me :D:D was I suprised.

Lesson: Buy from specity stores, and not ****ty places like best buy.

Hey Shortyemi, I'm in London right now visiting from Vancouver. I grew up here but haven't lived here for about 30 years.

Anyway....I agree with the others to stay away from Sony HU. The infinity speakers are nice and would be a good choice. As for BB install....for a basic install such as yours BB would do a fine job. I wouldn't get them to do anything beyond a basic install tho. Horror stories you hear about BB or FS intalls almost always involve more complex setups. Yours will be fine.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I'm going to shop around ask for quotes at specialty stores, who knows, maybe I'll get a deal with install for buying the speakers and deck there.

I actually got my speakers installed at Future Shop once. My mom got a new deck with CD changer (back in the day) and ended up blowing all the speakers with the new deck...the guys at the car audio place never told her about replacing the stock speakers with the new deck - the stock ones couldn't handle the power. I ended up picking Sony speakers for replacements because she had a Sony deck.

When I got the speakers installed, I thought they were 6 1/2 all around but my front ones were 6x9 instead and the install guys just put a pair of cheapo cones and told me about it after. My friend bitched at them and she got them to re-install another pair free of charge so yeah, I didn't really like FS after that.

This is a very large misconception in the aftermarket (and even OEM) car audio industry..... one does not have to have matching brands to "get the most" out of an audio system.

My Last system comprised of the following:Front components were Alpine SPX-177R biamped with an Infinity 7541a 4ch amp, Ascendant Audio Assassin 12" sub in a 1.2 cu-ft sealed enclosure with an Infinity 611a amp, Pioneer DEH-P8400MP for the HU, and that was it. It was an SQ-oriented system and the results were outstanding to my ears.

Don't be afraid to mix and match brands... there's absolutely no harm in doing so, and you'll be able to get everything you like the best this way. Just go out and audition lots and lots of different HU's, speakers, whatever else you're wanting.

Hey guys, I have been reading this forum for a while and very impressed with the sort of expert suggestions made here. Thank you all.I am buying the 2009 Nissan Versa at the end of this month. I want to replace the factory speakers and add two more speakers at the back of the car. So in total it will be 6 speakers. From what I have seen, the Versa has a speaker in each of the four doors. From the online pictures available, I did not see any tweeters (or I may have missed them). After reading all the posts, I have decided on getting the Infinity Reference 6022i. Do you think that is a good buy and does the 6022i come with 2 big speakers and 2 tweeters? I am not very good at all the technical specs, pretty amateurish actually. All I want for my car are 6 speakers, an amplifier and a subwoofer. All this in a very limited budget of $400. I am not going to replace the Head Unit as I think it is fine. The type of music that I listen to is Hip hop, Rap, R&B, Rock, Alternative. I have always wanted to hear the thumping bass from all the hip hop songs that I have in my collection. So if there is anything in the market that would help me in these questions, I would be really grateful. I don't get the car till the end of this month so I hope I get some suggestions before that. I am really confused as to what to get, so please do help me out. Thanks

I had a sony headunit once.....once. It worked great for about a year and then I had all sorts of probs with it. At one point, it started to make it's own decisions on which CD it wanted to play. If I put one it that it didn't like it would spit it back out. It wouldn't just eject it, it would actually shoot it out so hard the CD flew between my front seats and landed in the back seat.

shortyemi: I was reading all your posts and could you tell me exactly your audio set up in your Versa? Did you add any more speakers on top of the existing ones you had? What kind of subwoofer and amplifier did you get? Is it ok to get a powered bass tube instead of the sub and amp? Also could you please tell me the brands that I should look into. I had written something about this in the forum just today, if you could kindly read that and reply to me.

Okay everyone, I've researched and researched and now I've narrowed it down to 2 decks:

1. Alpine CDA-9884http://www.crutchfieldcanada.c...4.htm

2. Pioneer DEH-P5000UBhttp://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/...21981

They're the same price but Pioneer has USB control and has a 4V pre-out, Alpine has 2V. I'll be buying Infinity 6022i speakers, maybe an amp later on but no sub. I listen to rock and instrumental music mostly so which one is better in terms of sound? I called crutchfield and the agent said Alpine, what do you guys think? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
