Spark plugs change

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Hi guys,

I'm over 140k and looking to change spark plugs. Have found it's gonna cost me approx. 115 CAD here in Toronto plus labor. Probably will do it myself.

Just to confirm, are the Denso FXE22HR11 iridium the best what I can get for my EX35 2009 or you have something else to suggest.

Not sure if the problem I'm having is related to bad plugs, but sometimes when the engine is worm up, after I start it, the RPMs will go to 1000 and then drop to the 200 and car will turn off. To have my car running, I would need to step little bit on the gas paddle to keep it ON. Also in idle it would work on 600 RPMs -is that normal?

Thanks!

any luck buying your plugs?
i am in the same boat... i'm at 180,000km and was told it's time to change them.
i was thinking Denso as well... but no where in Eastern Canada sells them...
everywhere seems to sell the NGK laser iridium plugs.
no idea how one compares to the other...
or which one is OE...

no, will do it next month, have no time to change them. I have found store in Scarborough and they are selling Denso for 115 CAD including tax. Went yesterday in Infiniti on Dixie, was told 256 bucks for plugs and 365 for labor lol

Did you end up replacing wires as well as the plugs wires?

I'm nearing 120k miles at the moment. And thinking it may be time to change them soon.

If you can get over the border, was there, two weeks ago, bought NGK's from Autozone. They are 17.99 US each.
Have always used NGK, but if your looking for DENSO check this Canadian online parts company.

I need to do mine as well, mechanic was telling me the intake manifold. To come out, is that true?

Yes, I believe the air intake manifold does have to be moved in order to access the plugs. I haven't changed out my plugs yet, but I'm pretty sure member AWGD8 has. I think he'd be a good person to ask about this job if you had any questions.

I sent you a PM, though I'm not sure if you've received it. See if your settings in the board settings section of the user control panel allow other users to send you a PM.

Yes, you need to remove air intake tube.

Also, standard long spark plug socket will not work.

You need a slimmer long spark plug socket that fits the plug cylinder.

Pretty straight forward after that.

Becareful not to over torque each ignition coil.
The torque specs in the service manual has a typo.
Hand tight then slightly tigthen a bit with the tools.

HOLY CRAP. Why are plugs so expensive in Cannuckistan? US Amazon has them for ~$15/plug.

While you guys are in the spark plug valley to remove the plus, if you notice any oil at all, it indicates that your valve cover is leaking which can be expensive. The entire valve cover needs replacement as it is one piece. No need to change the side that has no oil. Good luck all.

I got my plugs at infiniti discount parts online for direct oem replacement for less than $100 for the set. I also bought two (2) new air intake gaskets for about $4 bucks a piece.

I will be doing this in a month or two or when the weather is much warmer as I am in Minnesota.

Cheers,

Jay

piSSko - I have the same problem with my EX35 starting and stalling when it's hot. Did you ever find a solution?

@rpotvin

sry for the late response.

Not really, even though the throttle body I cleaned up, put new filters (OEM) still same issue. Actually I would say not that often as before but it happens.

Thanks XIS for the link, will go through it...

mac ,with the plugs in a lot of these Nissan/INFINITI 's with the "crush gasket" ; Torque wrench OK - but it's such an easy "FEEL" - when tightening you WILL feel the washer "crushing" as you turn , then for about one to 1 1/2 or so - whatever - the "torqueing resistance" HITS the WALL . When you feel it bump-up like that STOP . I've verified it , backed -up by checking ALONG w/ torque wrench. :yesnod G 2/27/2018
