Hi,I just put a fuel pump in. Now it won't turn over I hear the pump roaring like its starved for fuel when I crank the engine. I bled the fuel pressure, put in a new fuel filter. Now when I give the car power you hear roar then stops and when you crank it it sounds like sucking air and roaring. :help Thanks in advance

Its not actually a new pump it came off a wrecked 1992 Q...I have a 93Q. They sold me the whole unit with wiring harness everything so all I would have to do is unplug and plug back in. The car was driven to the yard and everything looks brand new on the pump (newer than my old one at least). There is gas in the tank accidentaly dropped the O ring in the tank had to fish it out. Didn't have to play with the pickup at all since I got the whole unit.

ok, maybe try this. turn the key to RUN [dont try to crank] , wait 5 seconds, turn off. repeat that 7-10 times. then try to crank.

yeah. when you removed the fuel lines, you depressurized the system first. if the car doesnt start, the fuel pump stops pumping after a few seconds. if you do what i told you, it should repressurize the fuel system and get it to start. if it doesnt, you gotta check other things out. [fp control module]

Well, I was hoping that would work but alas didn't work. No burn marks on the control module I don't have any tools to check amps or anything of the sort...I'm going to put the old one back in. Someone hit my car last night as I was working on it and took off. I have the worst luck in the world. Now the car won't run and theres a dent in the rear passenger door. I had one more question how the heck does the O ring fit? The O rubber is bigger than the O its supposed to go on.

the fuel vapor cause the rubber in the o ring to expand, either force it in, cut it, or get a new one. the fuel pump may be defective, if it was a junkyard take out. its sucks when you go through all that work to find out the newly installed unit doesnt work either...

one time i was replacing an FP in a ford taurus wagon, and the dealer sent me two defective pumps in a row. needless to say my boss was pissed, and after an hour of yelling at ford, we got a good one.

I understand the impetus to save money, but that is exactly why you should never buy a used pump, unless you are just trying to get the car running to sell it. Impossible to know without testing how far along it is in its life, and if you burn out the controller with a bad pump, you're looking at over $500 in parts. Joe at Scottsdale can have stuff overnighted to you. Even with shipping I am certain it will be cheaper than your local dealership.

OK heres whats happened....Fuel pumps that are not stored in gas, that are used will dry up and the seals will fail...the pump may run but probably wont pump gas. I sell ALOT of fuel pumps...Ive sold guys install kits then later pumps as they got a "smokin deal" online somewhere not realizing a used fuel pump is not a good deal but a bad deal. So...Moral? if you need a fuel pump the junk yard Aint the place to get it...unless you remove it from a tank filled with gas.

Hope this helps...

Finally got the new fuel pump in...thanks for all your help!!! Huge difference between old and new pump!!! Its so quiet now you can hear a pin drop. And you guys are absolutely right on the used junk pumps way better to go with new. Now all thats left is maybe new cats, o2 sensor, valve cover clean and seal, new plugs, under plenum hoses, new steering pump, engine flush, eibach springs, tokico blues, strut bar, sway bars, blah blah blah anyways thanks.
