Hi! I'm the newb wit da '92 vert.

I tried to find out what I needed before getting into the interior molding but there wasn't much help. I also have the experience of being disappointed with the sound system in every convertible I've ever been in so I wanted to do this right.

I started by pulling off the door panel to discover why the speaker in my drivers side door didn't work.

*************WARNING*********************Removing the door panels on verts is a pain in da a---well you know.******************************************

While in there I discovered the unspeakable. they used the most cheesy speaker possible for the front door... 4x6" :( So I started a quest to find a good sounding speaker for that hole and wound up on the doorstep of Infinity. Their Reference 6402's kick with the power from the headunit and are even better with amps :pface. They only required that I cut out the circle on the back of the 240' speaker plates and didn't cause any problems. Since I was already there at the Infinity display I discovered their Kappa 60.5's and was quite impressed. With little room for speakers in the vert these turned out to be the perfect combination:ylsuper. They required that I cut out the metal to the screw holes to allow the wide plastic frames of the Kappa's to fit into the existing speaker hole. The only visible augmentation are the tweeters from the component system I had to cut 2" holes in my rear side panels. Even though it is incomplete, wanting a bit on the low end (just a touch) I'm already in audiophile heaven:icesangel

Head Unit: Sony CDX-M8800Front amp: Denon DCA-3180 (under the passenger seat)Rear amp : Denon DCA-3500 (5 channel) with fronts and rears bridged (behind the rear seat back[yes there's room])

Still to come: Capacitors, and a moderate sub to give me some nice solid low end out of the 5th channel of that 3500

Pictures may take some time, I'm still stuck in the 80's with my 35mm SLR

I went with the Infinity 6402's in the front and 63.5's in the rear. The 63.5's are 3-way speakers with a 6.5"woofer a tweeter and a supertweeter. I have my head unit powering the fronts and a Rockford 75X2 watt amp powering the rear. I love the rear speaker location and size in the verts, the hatch had 4X6's all around in the worst spots.

I didn't want to put a sub in my trunk because...well I'm not sure if what the vert comes with can honestly be called a trunk, It's more of a rear glove compartment:). plus I heard that when you put subs in a convertible they sound like crap and just rattle.I might try and Infinity BassLink under the passenger seat, They are really small but apparently sound pretty good and have the built in amp. I don't know if they are small enough to fit under the seat without being able to slide it back though.

I'll try to take some pics of my setup for you guys soon...

The deck is just a JVC kd-sh99 mp3/CD.Fronts are Cadence 6.5 or 5.25 components (tweet mounted on the curvy part of the door panel, good location...had to make mount to hold the mid/woof, but they fit pretty well. Just can't remember if I got the 6.5 or the 5.25)Rears are Orion c653 (6.5 coaxial)Infinity 10" sub in trunk (sealed box, rear facing)

Fronts+rears powered by 200w 4channel SonySub powered by 200w bridged 2channel Sony

This car has the best sound of any convertible I've been in...(haven't been in that many really, but damn it sounds good!)

I've got Phoenix Gold 6 1/2"ers all the way around (had to enlargen the holes) powered by a DEI 2-channel... and a single 12" Soundstream powered by an identical DEI 2-channel bridged to mono. Sound F'n great!

Your 6.5's, are they 2 or 3-ways or components?

Also, what do you mean by "enlarge the holes"? Aren't the rear cutouts made for 6.5's?

They are not components, they are coaxials (tri-axials? Can't remember now and I can't see them anymore) and I definitely had to hack the shxt out of the front door. Ummm... you may be right, I might not have had to cut the rear... can't remember now. I think I did have to... the Phoenix Gold 6.5" speakers are oversized.

As I recall, the rear speaker holes are OK for a 6.5, but the basket and magnet on my Orion 6.5's was closer to the edge of the hole and deeper, so I had to cut some to make them fit. Nothing structural got cut, just some extra sheet metal.

I see.

Chris from Underground is making me some adapters to put 6.5's in the front doors (woo hoo!), and I'll put the 3-ways in the doors, components in the rear.

I'm just happy because at cruising speed on the fwy with the top down I don't hear ANY wind.
