My sister has been driving my car for less than a week and she is having all sorts of problems with my 2003 Nissan Sentra Se-R Spec-V and i cant figure out why.... She says that she can shift into 3rd and 5th but has a hell of a time shifting into any other gears.... She also said that she can move through the gears with the car off easily.... And that she has to turn the car off to shift into reverse then turn it off again to go back into first gear.... Im lost.... I have told her to have someone look at it for her but her translation of what the mechanic tells her is very confusing im thinking maybe the shift cables have loosened up.... the transmisson is out of sync somehow.... the clutch going out.... but she didnt say that the clutch was slipping so idk.... someone plz help im loosing my mind!!!!!!

Hop in and see if you have the same problems.
edit: Nevermind, 1800 miles.
Seems like there were some transmission failures with the first couple of years. Syncros go bad. SOL unless there's a recall on it (I think there was on 02s, but not 03s).

I would have her take it to a local mechanic and have him check out the actual shifter mechanism - bushings, mount, linkages etc - to rule out that possibility before getting into any transmission issues. You said 3 and 5 are fine so maybe it's just the downward movement that is restricted.

Well it drove fine for the most part i had to change the MAF sensor before she took it but that has nothing to do with the actual shifting thing and its never had this problem with me.... It was always easy to shift and the dam thing shifted fine...

oh ya... well i put a short shifter in there a couple years ago maybe the linkage in that whole set up finally wore loose because it has done that to me before... and i did break a shift cable but had that all replaced
