Ok, finally got around to diagnosing my car's problem, and it's throwing a code 13 (coolant temperature sensor circuit), and I would like to know the part number for the coolant temp sensor (the one for the ECU, not the one that goes to the gauge cluster).

SOHC in the subject should've given it away, but if not, it's a 1990 :)

Also, how much do they run for at a dealership (or anywhere else they're available)...they only have the coolant temp sensor for the gauge cluster (which is the bigger sensor on the right of the one i need) at the usual part stores, and i figured i'd wait and see how much it was at a dealership before getting autozone or one of its equivalents to order it...

Thanks,

Micah

I believe you have that backwards: the temp sensor that goes to the gauge is the little black one on the left, and the coolant temp sensor that goes to the ECU is the big yellow on on the right (at least mine is yellow). You should be able to pick it up at any parts store for around $15 to $20 if i remember right (i changed mine about 3 years ago).

Also, it might not be the actual sensor, check the inside of the pigtail connector. If it is green with corrosion you will need to replace it. Nobody sells just the pigtail connector by itself, and Nissan will only sell the COMPLETE engine wiring harness (overkill), so you will want to go to a junkyard and get any pigtail that connects the same (doesnt have to be off the same sensor) and solder the new one in place.

Hope this helps!

Ok, thanks for clearing that up for me...I could've sworn I read it on a forum before as I'd described...but maybe whoever posted the info had it backwards, or maybe I just misunderstood and got it backwards...either way, now I have the right info :D

Hopefully it IS the sensor...but if it's not I'll have to do some junkyard shopping...fun fun...it's hard to find an s13...i know of one for sure, I'll check it out...the junkyard's a "U Pull It" somewhere towards Port Allen i believe (since you live in Louisiana too, I just figured i'd share that...hehe), it's a tan SOHC automatic coupe...

Thanks again,

Micah

Ya, i live in Slidell, just across Lake Pontchartrain from New Orleans. Theres a gold 92 in a junkyard here in town (Knieper's).

If you do need the pigtail connector, it doesnt even have to be an S13. Any Nissan car or truck should use the same type of connector and it can come from any sensor or even a fuel injector. All you will have to do is clip the connector off the donor car (leaving enough wire to work with), and solder in place of your old pigtail.

Ok...i guess i've have to go do that...'cause the connector's nice and green :D

i changed the sensor itself though, and it seems to be runnin better than it was...i'm takin a little road trip this weekend, so that'll be the test, but i'm gonna go see if i can get a pigtail from a junkyard around here...thanks again for the info man...
