I had to break out the torches and heat (to make it exapand) the lower control arm while I pressed in the joint. I tried with no heat and it wouldn't budge. Add some oxy-acetylene and things get moving.

I also measured height between the two balljoints. The B13 joint is about 5mm shorter at the top. However, there are lots of threads to get the nut ontop of and room to put the cotter pin through.
Yeah, 1mm is a lot when things are as tight of a fit as a balljoint. I don't know what I would do without a torch. Probably go crazy.

Today's update is very improtant: it's about knife safety (and one hand typing).

While I was trimming the remainder of an old bushing out, the knife slipped and decided to cut the **** out of my hand. Really, I did about 15minutes work and then the hit.

The next two might be NWSMy hand just after the cut.NWShttp://img.photobucket.com/alb...2.jpgAfter wrapping it for a short time.NWShttp://img.photobucket.com/alb...3.jpg

So yeah, it is definetly a bleeder.I then wrapped my hand in more clean toilet paper and drove my *** home one handed. This is quite difficult to steer, signal, shift and apply pressure to bleeding hand with only one hand - it was quite the performance. When I got home, I dumped alcohol on it (**** that hurt more than the cut), wrapped it in gauze and surgical tape. Not sure if my hand will be good by Monday to continue the work. ****.

hope you get better. At least you can still type. Yeah, I tend to wear gloves nowdays when doing something extreme like that. Craftsman 9.99 for some nice pair gloves. But I think they were on sale that time.

Holy hell that is beyond hardcore.

Anyway, you should think about putting a standalone write-up together about the B13 Balljoint, that's a VERY common question on here and it'd be fantastic to have in the articles section.

I can't wait to see how the paintjob turns out. Some guy over on Zilvia just did his Kouki with Tremclad white, and it looks amazing, although he has yet to do the final wetsand and buff.

Nice Work!

Man! Socks that's Ogrish .com material....nasty cut there. Those bushings looks so good, you are making me start a new bushing install project on my car. Thanks for the B13 balljoint DIY, is good to see people get original with their projects like you do....

Youch! That's going to sting for a while.

Knives are one of those things you have to force yourself to remain cautious around once you go a long time using one without cutting yourself. Kind of like 4 wheelers, dirtbikes and guns.

Make sure you heat and expand the lower control arm to accept the larger joint.

I love when you guys support me. However, I doubt it'll be ROTM worthy - much nicer cars on the board.

It shouldn't have to look like a runway model for ROTM in my opinion. The fact is you're a Nico member and you've put a TON of effort into that car already. Probably more effort than what most people do when they fix a car up that has a good chassis. You've definatly done more than I have.

The glove I was wearing during the accident.

With my little home-made protective bandage, it makes it look like I have a tumor on my hand while wearing latex gloves.

I was installing the balljoint on the passenger side rear control arm when I accidently snapped the vice. Crap.

Seeing as I couldn't really do anymore suspension work for the day, I determined I might as well work on fitting the passenger side fender. I needed to clearance the three top mounting holes as they didn't line up properly.

Jesus, it's starting to look like a car again.

I only put about an hour and half into it today since I have to work tonight, but definetly progress can be made in my condition. I want to get the body back together so I can prep for paint.

Knife cuts suck, I was in a car accident not too long ago where the windsheild was totally smashed in and when it cut my hand it cut down and around my knuckle on the palm of my hand, and the whole time i had my stitches in i had to wear latex gloves anytime i was doing work so it didnt get dirty or greasy or infected or w/e...it was a PITA.

Pulled the motor out today to do some more suspension work. Of course, by hand.

Put aside for now.

Bolting up the new fenders the bumper cover.

Lights still work. Sweet.

Everything lining up alright.

When I walked around back of the car I remembered the hatch needed to be replaced.

I found this sticker on the bottom corner of the hatch. I highly DON'T reccommend these guys. Clearly they did a **** job on this car.

I only got in about 35minutes today (had other things to get done today), but expect little but frequent updates this week.

My hand is starting to heal, so I will be able to get some more work done soon.

Also, mounted the hood today. I'm having trouble getting it all lined up though.

Jeebus! babowc, How how did you get into the knife fight? I assume you tried to grag the blade.. I bet that took a while to heal. I've been pretty lucky. I almost _always_ wear gloves of some kind (latex or Mechanix). How long ago was taht?

Sock, sorry to thread-jack. Hope you get healed up soon as well.

Right now I'm taking it easy from the car.

Somebody ran a red light earlier this week and wrote off our daily driver. Currently, my back is as sore as ****. It hurts to walk, let alone work on the 240.

My sympathies man.

I stabbed my self a few months back when working on my car. Don't have any pics but it was about 1/4" deep into the fleshy part of ones hand between the thumb and pointer finger. I was wearing leather gloves when it happened.

Nah man, didn't you read? He was just driving along and the extreme forces placed on a vehicle during daily driving caused the front strut to cave in.
