Got another hour or so in on the 240sx.

Rear finished up.

Rocker panel time.

Almost done sealing up the rear muffler area.(I know it ain't pretty, but that's not the point)

That's really it for now. I'm really hoping that the fiberglass coating and undercoating will be able to keep the moisture out of the car.

are you going to butcher the front too?
Probably not too much more than it lost. Thanks for being an *******. Butcher the front? Good to see you got off your high and mighty position to post in my little thread. Thank you for the honour.

Another hour into the project.

Still sealing up.

Looks bad.

I ran out of latex gloves, so I decided to grab some dust masks finally.

Sealing up another patch.

A touch more work evening **** out with fiberglass filler.

I won't be able to get out until Thursday to finish up that rocker panel. Expect updates then.

I'm new here. Just looked through this entire thread. One word: WOW! You got patience, man! If I saw smth like that I'd never even think about restoring it. Even if they paid me to take the car. Hats off here. Good luck. You got yourself another fan, mista.

Basically, today was rocker panel day.

Primed. When I sand it, it'll be easy as hell to find all the low spots.

This hat used be a nice black when I started the project 140+hours ago.

And the shoes.

Started sanding down the body.

Great job on that rocker panel, props!

That's a lucky 240.

You still are and shall continue to be my hero. This is great, really... ignore the idiots who are just jealous of your patience and dedication. They don't understand doing work for a car to make it better because mommy will just buy them a new one when their car rusts out or breaks due to childish driving.

So when you get finished with your car, want to come down here and help me with mine :P

For people who love this thread/project and need something to kill time between updates I have something for you. Theres a guy in sweeden doing pretty much the same thing with a 280z. His updates are in the form of videos with very very nice editing I might add. If restoration is on your cool wall then check this out!

i stand by what i say. this car is not safe. this is not the proper way to repair a badly rust damaged vehicle.

this post is giving newcomers the wrong idea.

GET A GOOD SHELL TO START OFF WITH OR FIX IT PROPERLY!!

i feel its very iresponsible of nico to let someone shocase work like this.

you say your intention is to have a car to take to the track, for autocross, drag or whatever.

you will never pass tech.

you also state its for some road use. this car is not safe for the road, and will not pass a proper safety inspection.

i love your answer to that one, you have friends who can take care of you inspection. thats good to know.

if by chance you are ever passing through new york area, let me know so i can put my car in the garage and also worn the people i care about to stay off the road.

That is the next plan next time. Again, I was stupid and bought this car for $100. If I could do it again, I would of bought a more complete car.
ca18datsun510 wrote:i feel its very iresponsible of nico to let someone shocase work like this.
I use the term "work" loosely.
ca18datsun510 wrote:you also state its for some road use. this car is not safe for the road, and will not pass a proper safety inspection.
No, I have friends who are mechanics. According to provincial law, the only rule about rust/damage is, "There can be no holes into the cabin area." It makes no mention of material used or who can repair anything. It just ensures that no exhaust fumes enter the cabin area. So yes, it will pass just fine.

Yes, it will pass a legitimate safety in Ontario.

Will do.

I wonder how many low spots actually exist?

Tons.

Smoothing out driver's rocker panel.

Close yet? Getting there.

Driver's side again.

Closed up.

I had to close up early today because I ran out of lightweight filler (Bondo) to smooth out the rest of the little spots. Oh well, it can wait for another day.

An experienced person driving an 'unsafe' car is harmless compared to inexperienced people driving 'safe' cars. How much damage can a 240 cause? On the other hand, there are drunk teenage girls and senior citizens driving Hummers and huge trucks all over the place, causing accidents and even deaths, while they come out of it with minor scratches if anything.

I thinking you're going a bit over the edge. I can agree that it's a lot of rust and may not be the most safe car on the road, but I don't think he's cutting that many corners if any. I'm not a welding expert so I can't really argue on if the way he's doing it is right or wrong, but I can tell you I've seen people that are very inexperienced fix and put on the road cars in much worse shape. I've seen people use liquid nails to attach body parts to frames. Atleast he's welding.

I also don't think many people or newcomers on NICO are going to be attempting a job like this as well.

You remind me of the simpsons episode where the monorail isn't stopping and the one lady keeps yelling "THINK OF THE CHILDREN! PLEASE SOMONE THINK OF THE CHILDREN!"

Thanks for thinking of the children.

Cheers.

I stand by what I say too. Don't be a troll in Sockington's thread. You have expressed your opinion quite lucidly and it is time for you to move on. Additionally, NICO has no culpability with regard to letting Sock post pics of his project. It's not like he's posting pics of a bomb he's building to unleash on FA members or anything.

Find another thread and stop jacking this one.

Thanks man. More updates first thing Monday morning. I'm putting a clutch in my 97' Altima this weekend, so that'll keep me busy.

Not trying to make anything worse, just saying that even if he feels the car is unsafe, I'm still going to keep working on it. Also, no hard feelings on my end.
