i dont know how to desbribe it....this thing:silver thing in the back

one of the first things i noticed when i was riding around without hvac trim, when you push the button to make the air flow to yo face, you can watch that thing go down, so i was like "OMG COOL!!!"

yeah so today, the thing is out cause i was doing the whole shift boot thinger, and i noticed, that thing didnt move anymore

i thought... ok this is wierd....

so i clicked on the button to make it go to my feetzies, and the thing stayed closed (this is when it normaly closes up from being open), waited about 30 seconds, and clicked the face button again....

it went to my face, i was like thank god

well i made it go to the feet again just to check, and yeah, it closed up, only this time, it never oppened again

so like the whole 3 hours i was cleaning my car and playing with it, i kept trying to get it to open, and i noticed the thing was stuck closed....

so anyone know wtf is wrong? i have a feeling this is gonna be expensive as **** to replace if i cant fix it

and i have a feeling its gonna require taking out the dash to fix

EDIIT apparently a lot of people arent realizing that at the bottom of the thread, theres more and better pics, and i obvioulsy made some progress

thanks ryon for bringing to my attention that some people arent that smart

its the metal rectangle with the black foam around it

thats the thing that rises and closes shut to block off air blowin to yo face, and it opens up when you want it blowin there

just look through your vents in the daytime and press the different buttons and youl see the thing slowly move

and its stuck shut right now...

umm....maybe go find a S14 at a junkyard or a RHD S14 front clip and get the missing parts off of it.....nissan might not carry it anymore for US but doesn't hurt to check out the FSM and find out the right technical term for that HVAC bs

I believe what you are looking at is called the blend door. check the actuator on it. It could be electric or vacuum operated (probably electric) Good luck probably have to take the dash out to get at it.

Doesn't look like you need to remove dash but, you might need a new motor. If you can get it out and lube the actuator it might free it up if it is stuck. That would be a temporary fix until you could find a junkyard part.

Good luck

the picture makes it hard to see whats going on, but where would the motor be located? how would i access it without taking off the dash?

i guess that would make sence, if the problem is the fact that the motor is dead

your on your own there. I have never actually worked on an S14 but most HVAC systems are the same. Look to the side of the mix door and see if you can find the motor...start turnin wrenches from there.

Try downloading a FSM, it will probably show you everything you need to know.

U have to look at the heater unit, More towards the left of the door and where u have pics of. I am a parts guy at Nissan and the part # is 27732-70F00. It is to the left and lower then where u are looking.

Sweet ill try to find that... but its the heater unit thats causing the thing to have failed, or is it the motor? Or are you saying its by the heater unit? Either way, i dont know what anything in there is,

you think you might be able to circle it on MS paint?

The part that needs to be replaced is just to the right of where that door is, but a little lower. I am at work so I cannot post pics, but I think I see it just to the right and down of that door. it should be in a little pocket or case. Hope that helps. im me if u can and i will try to explain better. redhonda86w

That diagram a couple of posts up shows the mode mix motor, I beleive thats what it is that u need.

Take the radio and all of that stuff out and u should see it down there somewhere, dont give up.

BTW, nice drum kit, i am a drummer also.

Ok, so i took the radio/din thing out so i could see better back there, and i found the actulator/arm thing that opens and closes the air box door

i kinda color coded it so you can see what im looking at, and where i am

Yellow = actulator/arm thingBlue = the screw that holds the two parts to the airbox together?

Anyways, to the pics....Heres the whole area for anyone who doesnt know where i am

Getting a little closer...

Airbox with part number that might come in handy?

and last but not least, heres what looks to be the actulator arm thing

i have no clue why it goes down so low from the airbox, if the door is wayyy the hell up there, but who knows, maybe its a huge linkage, cause i see a series of 3 arms just in that small pic alone

But anyways, i cant seem to find a motor, and im kinda stuck on what to do now from here.

Anybody who has an S14 and some free time, you are MORE THAN WELCOME to open this area up, and put the fan on and press the buttons so you can see what controlls the air door, if its possible.

so i plugged the HVAC box back in, turned the battery and fan on, pressed the buttons, and i didnt see the actuator move at all...

pushed on the door with the actuator attached still, and didnt see the actuator move

right now im trying to take out the actuator (thing in the yellow)...

i can get that top screw facing me off, but i cant freaking figure out how to get the one facing down off for the life of me, the areas too small.... any ideas?

Have you tried a stubby screwdriver? They also have screwdrivers with flat and phillips ends that are "s" shaped..an elongated s shape. There's about a half inch on each end after the curves so those might work. They only cost $2 or so...usually in the cheapy tool section at the front of Advanced here. They are kind of a pain to use . Also a 1/4 socket will hold a screwdriver attachment . That might work as well with a 1/4 ratchet.

alright, well i tryed using the 1/4 socket to hold my screwdriver head on the rachet wrench, but its a big ratchet wrench with a big cube thing on the end, so to use the 1/4 socket, i had to use the socket extention, which made it impossible to get in the little area =(

it probably woulda been possible if i had a smaller ratchet, if they make em

so for now, does anyone else have any other ideas? i tryed using small needle nose pliers to grab the threaded side of the scerw and turn it, but it doesnt grip hard enough...

You are more likely to get a reply if you stop making individual threads for every issue you have. Just make one that says fix Anthony's car for him.
