I've noticed that my car is spitting blue smoke out of the exhaust sometimes. That's oil, correct? My oil pressure stays around 70psi or so but can go as high as ~90psi under heavy load above 4k. The only time I see smoke is when I let off the throttle quickly after a pull at high load (quick acceleration usually). It will shoot out a nice cloud of the smoke for about 2-5 seconds and then stop. The engine doesn't seem to be running any different during these periods other than the fact that it will, very rarely, backfire.

I'm currently running my FWD CA18DET with no more than the stock S13 O2 housing (bad, i know) for an exhaust. Could this be part of the problem?

Thanks in advance,-MAZ-

Sounds like thrust issues with your turbo. Time for a new one as this problem doesn't fix itself and can only get worse.

What do you mean by "thrust issues"? I was originally thinking something with the seals in the turbo, but I had it rebuilt in January and it hadn't seen any action between then and the end of July when I fired up my motor for the first time... it just sat there bolted to the engine.

I guess a T25G wouldn't be too bad of a "compromise" I guess.

Thrust issues meaning the back and forth movement of the shaft due to worn or inferior bearings. Sometimes it's just a bad rebuild, it happens.

Pulled my intake and checked out the turbo. If there is any shaft play (side/side or front/back) it is VERY MINIMAL. The inside of the pressure pipe (the one going from th compressor housing to the hot pipe) had a bit of oil spray along its walls, but it wasn't soaked or anything.

I've also noticed that if I'm driving by a wall (like an overpass or similar) letting the engine idle, sometimes the exhaust echo sounds a bit less smooth, if that makes any sense. Normally I can hear the turbo spooling nice and smooth, but in these cases it sounds just a hair "rough".
