so i have a '95 240sx w/ a manual transmission and i noticed white smoke coming up from my shifter lately. it seems as if it's coming out of the rubber boot, but hard to be 100% sure. i've only seemed to notice it when i'm on the highway in 5th gear, but i don't know if it's exclusive to that situation. any ideas? thanks.

yeah, i can definitely smell something, which i would guess is transmission fluid. is there a fill plug on the transmission itself where i could check the fluid level, or is there a dipstick in the engine bay?

no theres no dipstick or anything like that in the engne bay...there should be a plug on the side of the transmission, take it out and stick ur pinky in the hole...if theres no fluid on ur finger, then your low on transmission fluid.

Mine did this until i replaced my clutch, i don't think the clutch wasn't the problem, but rather the lower shift Boot. when I reinstalled the the trans it and got the new boot on, it stopped doing that.

turns out that the the inner shifter boot was torn, like you suggested. when replacing it, will the new one just slide down over the shifter or is there another way to get it on?
