I've found a 1987 300z with a 3000 turbo in it the car is in decent shape but the automatic transmission is stuck in high gear, its at a salvage yard and they want $1000 or they scrap it.

The things i'm wondering are is it really twin turbo and how much might it cost (ballpark) to get it fixed. I like the cars but I"ll be buying it to fix and resell, I just can't stand the thought of it getting scraped.

there were no twin turbo engines available for the 300zx in 87. it's got a vg30et in it, but even if you source another transmission, will it have a salvage title to go along with it? if it does, you aren't going to get much for the car.

yeah it's a single turbo, the 4th digit int he vin shoudl be "C" and if the production date si 4/87 or alater it sould have a finned diff cover, and that means CLSD, whihc sell used for $600 alone, the trans well, I'd swap in a manual

I'd ofer then $500, unless the body si just cherry, but it the body is good $1000 might not be too bad is the trans is all ti needs

Well I have another question, what does it take for a auto-manual swap on these cars?

And also I found the car on Nico zerothread?id=421248 Not going to have a salvage title . And hell if the lsd alone is worth $600 I might buy it anyway just for parts I need some off of it and the rest to fellow Niconaughts

And to answer your question no the body isn't cherry just some small esk dents.

And I have another question what sized turbo, or what kind I mean do these use?

Transmission, flywheel, and driveshaft. You should get a new master and slave as well as clutch before you drop it in, and may want to consider getting any of the hardlines from whatever car you pull the 5 speed from unless you plan on making new lines.

Ya sorry for lack of research but I was kind of pressed for time, and I did look but if it wasn't on the first page of Google, I wasn't looking that hard. I think I have talked my self into the car, as long as it is an 87 with a CLSD, and a t25, so even if every thing goes south and i cant afford to fix the car it won't be a total loss. Thanx for everyones help, when i go and look at the car I'll post before my final decision.
