I am looking at investing into a 1989-1993 240SX as my next project car in about six months, however I am not completely confident of this choice. :( So what i am looking for is any suggestions on what to look for when buying (if i do) and what year is the best? :help

Peace,

:ylsuper

1) yes (unless you are going to rice it out)

2) search, you'll find answers to almost all your questions already answered. If they're not answered, ask and you will probably get a real quick reply.

yes, it does, however I am more into making a lower performance engine out perform or match that of the j-spec engines being swaped in. I go for the sleeper styles, if you can see what i'm trying say.

ummm what the hell are you talking about?? no one is going to know if you are carring a SR motor unless you tell them OR you have a FMIC! IMO go wit the SR, lighter and more aggresive look and IF you rice it out,...just don't!

89-90 are the lightest, but 91-93 make the swap easier and the car is a bit newer.

My favorit 240's are 97/98 but i dont think you going to want to drop 10 grand on a 240 that will becaome you "project" car.

what i was meaning about a sleeper was saying that it has the original engine vs. saying it has a j-spec higher performance engine.

oh, and i am more attracted to the original design of the 240sx's with the "folding" lights, hey um, not to sound too stupid, but what do you call those kind of lights anyways?

Pop-ups. Keep it simple. That would be on S13's 89 (I think?)-94. The 94's only came in auto convertible form.

forced induction, lots of it!! (to a reasonable amount of course, don't want to blow up the engine the first year, :) )

i need a power goal to base my answer off of.

Id say, less than 325 hp its cheaper to go the sr20det route because you dont need to rebuild the internals until about that point (just to be on the safe side, a bunch of people say they are good for 400hp+ :bonghit )

An entry level turbo kit for the KA24de runs about 4 thousand dollars from Nsport. A lot of people make their own KA-T kits that work out fine also, but again, if you dont have much experiance with turbos, you might want to get something that is guarenteed to work.

Of course thats just my opinion because you might have connections or costs don't matter or bla bla bla you just want to do a KA-T anyway....

Its all up to you and what you want. Research is good, the more you do now the less there is to Fu(K up later...

the imput helped out, i know quite a bit of experience about how researching pays off, and i certainly know that there are certain points where when one way can out weigh the other in cost effectiveness. But there is something about me that likes to do things the harder way. Especially after one of the first bunch to turbo a 3rd gen. Ford escort. So i'll probably will go with the KA-T approach, if i do end up with a 240SX. (hey, look at me, i'm already starting to pick up the lingo! :) )

well, i think i have discovered that i am a very indecisive person, i origanilly was looking into the KA-T, mainly because of having a "USDM" out perform a "JDM" would be fun, and at first it seemed that it wouldn't cost much, or at all, more than the sr20 swap beefed to the max. Now that I have done some research, (for the past week), i am now convinced the greatest bang for the buck would be the swap plus a bigger turbo, and all the engine mod's and tuning to go with it, generally making it easier to to reach a magical number of 400+ horse power. so, now i am all for the swap over ka-t, and creating a clone that we americans dream to have, the Silvia!
