I bought a unit used from a guy, said it was a Fidanza unit. Not sure on the availability of the part but it looks a lot like the B&M shifter in the link ZBum provided.

MSA also sells a cheap short shifter. You disassemble the stock unit and bolt the provided parts on to the assembly. A lot easier to install since you can leave the bottom plate in the car (don't have to reach the front two bolts).

However, compared to the shifter I've got, the parts seemed cheaper. I have only drove his car once since he put it in, but although the throw is shortened there is a lot more play in the shifter. As a trade off, his transfers little of the vibrations in the transmission, while mine transfers.... pretty much everything. 2nd gear is one shakey mofo, but that might be my transmission (I'll be finding out soon enough with a rebuilt transmission going in).

That's the most I can offer to this thread. Some people cut, shorten, and weld up the stock shifter arm; but I haven't drove a car with this and a 71C. I know a guy who did it to his R90A and it seemed alright though.

Another reason not to like e-bay knockoffs. The B&M units do not do this. Ask the 240SX guys who've used multiple shifters which they prefer and most of them will say the B&M.

Not a true short throw shifter.

Either way, I am betting that he bumped it because the $200 price tag was more than he had in mind. So he was hoping for a cheaper option. MSA sells one dirt cheap... the kind Z31 owners would buy.

You get what you pay for.

You buy cheep s***, you get cheep s***.

You buy a B&M, you get the best of the best.
