Shifter problems

Some times when i driving in 2nd or 4th the shifter will just pop out of gear into neutral. Does anyone know why this happens and how i could fix it?

does your transmission have a lot of miles on it?

It has 156,000 miles on it.

that's TOO high mileage... mine has 144k. It could be that the prior owners abused it or it was not cared for. i'd try replacing the gear oil with something like REDLINE MT oil. some people say it helps with old/high mileage transmissions. let me know if that helps.

edit: i meant, "that's not TOO high..."
