It's screwed on, but they also put a thread sealant in there too, so it's very difficult to twist off without damaging the knob.

When I put in my short shifter I just hacksawed through the metal, but if you're not changing the shifter assembly, you're just going to have to give it a lot of force. Maybe try some vice grips on the stalk and the knob.

is this true of the shift knobs on the 2002 G20? i want to change the one in my infiniti, but it won't budge (unlike the shifter in my '92 maxima, which twisted right off). i don't want to break anything.

I suspect Nissan does this with the majority, if not all, of their shift knobs.

If you can't turn it with a good twist of an adult arm, it's probably glued on.

the 08 2.0 is glued on. I wanted to swap to a knob i already have, doesn't fit, not sure what the thread size is.

Wrap it with a towel and stick a breaker bar in there and turn it. Should spin off. They use LOCTITE on the knobs to keep them in place.

Put a towel, but make it thick if you dont want to damage the shift knob, than use some vice grips and make sure you have some balls to twist it off :P
