I'm new to this forum and have a question concerning a 2002 I35. 130 miles ago the service engine soon light came on and a thought it was result of the gas light being illuminated, however. After filling the tank the service engine soon light remained on. I thought it was because of the 87 octane gas I have been putting in the tank for the last year. How can I resolve the service engine soon issue?

ThanksReggie

Welcome to NICO!

First step would be to have the car checked for codes. Most major auto parts chains will check codes for free.

Once you know what codes are causing the light, we'll be able to help you more.

When I retrieved my code P0462 it said something about the fuel level sensor. Where is this sensor located on my 2003 Pathfinder?

I also own a 2002 Infinity I35 which I purchased appx. 2 weeks ago after a motor blew up in my son's 1999 Buick Regal. He just called and said the "service engine soon light" was on. I am just DEVESTATED after viewing this site and seeing this is actually the "check Engine" light and I might have a MAJOR problem. I bought this car because of the reliability and I am soooooo upset about this. What did your problem end up being? I am taking it to AUTOZONE to have checked out and will keep everyone posted. I like this site and it seems to have a lot of great information.

I had my codes pulled and they are P0011 and P0021. What exactly is this and how severe? Also, appx. how much to have fixed. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! Oh yeah, I drive a 2002 Infinity I35.

I have a 2000 nissan maxima and a couple of months ago the 'service engine light' indicator came on and has been permanently on since. the car ran as smoothly as before until 2 weeks ago when the 'TCS off' and 'SLIP' indicator suddenly came on. These 2 dont come on in the mornings when its cold. When they are on the car vibrates when I brake completely and doesnt run as smooth as it should when its below 20 mph. I got the codes for the service engine light. they are P1320, P0304, P0171, P0174. The Midas guy said it could be that the computer is bad so I should go to the dealer to check it. I feel its going to be too expensive. Does anyone have any idea about the TCS indicator? is it related to the service engine indicator?any help will be appreciated..

Coil packs are about 80 dollars each. Spark plugs about 5 each. Total parts about 530 with tax. The coil packs are easy to replace and when they are off just take the plugs out and install new ones. Should take about 1 hour to do all this at home. I have done it on a 95 Maxima and my 01 I30, piece of cake job. I find it hard to believe all coils went bad at once. Do a search on how to test coil packs, it is easy to do.

past month or so my 04 max se has been stalling when driving slow, or in parking lots, even reversing. First few times no code. Finally the last time this is what happened...car stalled tried starting but was getting a hard start (more that a few seconds), couldnt accelerate, vdc off lamp came on , ses lamp on and gear was stuck in 5th. pulled over again waited, finally it started normally but ses stayed on. code was p0345 camshaft pos sensor circuit A, bank 2. Now i'm afraid that the code had to do with the hard start I was having and not the stalling issue.I was think of cleaing the MAF sensor, replacing air filter, and maybe replace the camshaft sensor . I've also noticed that it usually stall near my home where there is a lot of construction going on and dust and debris in the air, could that be and issue.....is it ok to clean the MAF sensor on my 04 maxima, or should we refrain from doing that?.....any assistance will be appreciated

Ok. I just tried it, but where the Diagnostic Test Mode Selector would be, my car has a metal plate that blocks you from doing anything.

My car is 2001 Maxima SE.

NP using the orignal post, only thing that seemed a lil weird was the code that was spit out 1380 but I using a lil logic it looks like 0138at the time I was using the full extent of the lil VQ to get on the freeway.... usually get to about 80 or so, can merge with ease!

Purchased my Cam Sensor for 80 bucks at NorthTX Nissan, they wanted 115 in Arlington. Pep Boys put it on for $50.00, the light is off and no more hard starts or going dead while trying. This site help me make up my mind and your graphics showed me what part I needed because the parts person was clueless as to which bank was one or two.....Thanks!

Hi again all,

well I bought my own ODB reader and last week pulled the following codes:

P0011P0012P0340

I had the bank 2 camshaft sensor replaced last summer. I replaced the bank 1 myself last weekend. My service engine soon light keeps coming back on but now of course is just saying p0011 and p0012.

I looked in the EC section of the FSM and it tells me to look at the IVT solenoids, but I can't find the diagram that shows where these are located can anyone help me please? The engine is making more and more noise by the day so I'm trying to get this taken care of. The sound is like a clicking/rattling like a camera shutter almost but its pretty loud. it goes in and out, originally when I was making a right hand turn it would be more prevelant, but now its pretty much all the time.

Also, when I start the car its very loud and clicking and the oil light flashes in time with the rattle sound and then goes out/off. I know its not like a CV joint or anything like that, I'm positive its part of the engine I just don't know specifically where to look right now.

Please help!

Wow! This thread is 4.5 years old. You could have started a new thread so I don't have to go to the numerous postings here.

This problem, P0011/21 IVT (Intake Valve Timing), is most likely due to dirty engine oil (since you have already replaced the camshaft sensors). How often do you change your oil? IMO, 'dino' oil is good for 3000-5000 miles OCI while synthetic oil is good for 5000-8000 miles. This is based on UoA (Used Oil Analysis) I've seen in numerous sites. Of course the OCI can be extended depending on vehicle usage and as a result of UoA.

The Nissan/Infiniti variable valve timing uses oil pressure to advance/retard the intake valve timing. Oil pressure is used to move the IVT control vane. If the oil is dirty or gummed up, oil flow thru the galleries/passages are restricted/erratic giving valve timing problems, etc. The 'ticking' problem may also be related to the dirty oil. Refer to FSM pages EC-24 for component location and EC-162 for IVY Control description and diagnosis.

You have to do multiple oil changes (synthetic oil preferred) in succession, hoping to fix the problem. If not, engine repair may be needed. You need a can or two of BG Quick Clean and an optional can of BG MOA (additive). They can be bought online. Add a can of BG Quick Clean to the engine oil and run engine for @ 10-15 minutes. Drain the oil (be careful as the oil is hot). Add the required amount of fresh oil (4-1/4 quarts) and the optional BG MOA additive. Do another oil change after 1000 miles and use the 2nd can of BG Quick Clean, if available. If you're lucky, the 'ticking 'sound may go away and even fix the IVT fault codes. If not, the solenoid and/or crankshaft position sensor may have to be replaced to fix the IVT codes.

Good luck!

Hi guys,

I have a nissan maxima 03 with 75K miles on it. Today when I was driving in rain, suddenly i started to feel some burning smell, after some time I have seen smoke coming out of my engine and at this point I heard a weird sound also. I pulled the car aside and stopped.

what should I do ??, what could be the problem ?
