Sensor on top of engine

Can anyone tell me what the sensor is in the circle of the attached photo. I have a 2002 QX4. I had my school were I work replace the vapor purge valve and they took that valve on top of the engine off and put the purge valve there. Of course that was weeks ago before I noticed it because the check engine light didn’t go out. We weren’t sure if the purge valve was the problem but now I need a new valve on the engine.

That's the Purge Control Solenoid, there are no sensors in that neighborhood. On a transverse V6 the VIAS Solenoids (intake runners) would be up there with it, but on RWD they're at the front. Here are the component locations from the ESM:
