Ok, I need some advice guys and gals... I got a bunch of light and several deep scratches running along the side of the car. I tried touch up paint, and some of that Meguire scratch remover stuff, but the scratches still looks horrible. What products should i be looking for to fix this?

Is this (mothers paint chip repair) what i need? I went to the parts store today and found sth made by turtle wax that looks like lipstick and has colors to match your paint, would that be better? Or is there sth else i need?

Thank you in advance

If the scratches haven't penetrated the actual paint(haven't gone down to bare metal or primer) then they can be fixed with a buffer. Just see a local detailer, or paint shop, they should be able to fix you up for just a fex bucks.

If they are deep enough to get down to primer or bare metal, then repainting is the only fix. At the very minimum get some touch up paint to prevent rust until you can get it repainted professionaly.

yea they can be wetsanded with 2000-2500 grit paper and them buffed out. i do this at the detail shop i work for all the time, they will come completely out if they are not through the paint. but dont try this if youi have no experience because you canburn the paint.

I had this problem, all it costed was $3.50 for a can of touch-up spay paint. i had quite a few of those down to the metal scratches and a bunch of light scratches and i was lazy so i just sprayed over all of them. This is only temporary until i get a paint job but for now, it looks damn good (for a spray paint job) and the colors are really close.

Yup they are deep! There was shiny metal showing through on the door and fenders before I patched it with touch up paint. The paint was fine for bumpers, but the doors and fenders look like poo. I don't think sanding is going to work here, it'll probably just take more paint off.

Does the spray paint look any better than the brush on? Anyone have experience of other products that are specific for this kind of situation, like that turtle wax/mothers stuff i mentioned above or those damn "as seen on TV" things that magically removes scratches, add hp, lose 10lbs and make a jillion fries? I know I've seen it in infomercials

I really am hoping to avoid professional body/paint work for sth like this, but if it comes to that how much would that cost?

Thanks all for the replies!

spraypaint works pretty well but it wont be the exact shade of whatever color you have. Or you can just take the "paint-your-whole-car-in-primer-and-leave-it-that-way" route.

if you dont want to spend a lot of $ then go to a body shop and have them mix some touch up paint for you so it will be the exact color. then use a toothpick and apply the paint in the scratch, you want to fill in the scratch completely so its a little higher than the rest of the paint. when it dries you can wetsand it until its even with the rest of the paint. then you use a high speed buffer and buffing compound and buff it out, it wont come out perfect but pretty damn close. i did this to some spots on my car and they are barely noticable.
