What has been your experience with using Scotchgard on cloth seats? I have a new 2015 and a 1 year old child, so I'd like to protect the seats from inevitable spills. Can I use the regular Scotchgard or should I seek out the "Auto" version? Anything to worry about with heated seats? Thanks!

I have a 2015 with almond interior so I wanted to Scotchgard it.

First, I called Scotchgard and they said the "auto" spray was safe for heated cloth seats (I only asked about that one, because it's the one I bought). When an area I tested didn't show any discoloration I I covered anything plastic in my car (console, etc) with some plastic drop cloth I had. I sprayed 2 coats, about 15 minutes apart. It took just over a bottle for my Rogue (I had an extra bottle of generic "fabric" Scotchgard that I used for the cargo area).

I did this in warmer weather so I just left the windows down so it could air out and dry faster. So far it seems to work, the fabric repels water and most stains. There's some messier smudges that I still have to clean up (maybe I could have done it thicker? more coats?).

Good luck!

i use this stuff on my combat boots, tactical bags, clothing, etc. it works.... but not for long.

sun exposure reduces its life-span in half.
constant movement (either being brushed against, rubbed, dragged, etc) wears away the scotchgaurd.
high heat causes the fabric to dry up, causing the scotchguard to fade away.

so does it work? YES. but for how long???? thats the question.

First thing I did when I got my black cloth seat equipped Rogue home was treat the seats and carpets with regular Scotchguard. No problem with stains or coverage.

It helps but you have to reapply it frequently as it wears quickly as 5.56 said.

Thank you all for your responses! It has been very helpful. For now, we've decided to skip the scotchgard. Our little one isn't going to be eating or drinking in the back anytime soon. Also, doesn't the Rogue have some sort of built-in protection straight out of the factory? I thought most new cars with cloth interiors did now.

If you are considering Scotchguard, you may want to also consider 303 Fabric Guard. 303 makes great products many professionals swear by:

While 3M is an awesome company, you may want to look into this product as well. Especially if you have concerns with lifespan, etc.. You can find many positive comments on discussion forums about it:

What? you let your little rug rats get their grimy little paw in you brand new, still-smells-like-a-new-car rogue? Thats what the old car is for!!! Just mount the car seat on the roof rack and cover them with a stadium blanket. You need to check yor priorities, man.
