Sacramento, CA Makes DIY Auto Repairs Illegal

A new law passed by the county will limit the kinds of repairs car owners can do to their vehicles.

These include "minor repairs" which the new code defines as follows:

Minor adjustments, service, and repairs to automobiles or other passenger vehicles. Examples include but are not limited to: radiator, transmission, muffler, and brake repair, lubricant shops, diagnosis and tune-up, smog inspection, auto glass repair and installation, automotive seat covers, and re-upholstery, tire sales and service, and car washes. Shall not include body and engine work as defined in “Major Automobile Repair.” (See Section 7.3 of the Zoning Code)????.

Everyday is becoming more and more of a hassle to modified and now even work on your own car in California. All the car people should get together and appeal this stupid law, before more California cities get this law added.

Boot 'em out. Or if you can't, you're welcome in Arkansas. Or Texas. Or Alabama. Or... :gapteeth:

The next thing you know you will have to be licensed to fill your own gas tank ! After all you could sprain your wrist unscrewing the filler cap.

Welcome to the DPRC (Democratic People's Republic of Califonia). IMHO, I think 45 and his predecessors needed to add some more Wall. It's been out of hand there for a long time. ;)

1: Screw California
2: Enforce it. I DARE THEM.
3: Screw California.
4: Unconstitutional. There's already supreme court precedent for defending individuals against this s***. NOBODY can legislate what you can repair or modify on your own property. Smog s*** is only enforcable and constitutional because it's required to maintain your vehicle's registration. Residential building code is only enforceable because it's required to sell a house (or insure it, but that's a whole different racket). So I swap a headgasket. What are they going to do? Revoke my tags? Fine me? How do they prove it? Are they going to confiscate my tools? Are they going to surveil my shop?
5: Enforce it. I WANT them to try it. PLEASE.
6: Talk about class warfare. What about people who can't afford to go to a shop but need to keep an old beater on the road to get to work?
7: Screw California
8: Read up on your local automotive, electronic, and general Right to Repair campaigns. Your state might suck, but I guarandamntee somebody is trying to change that.
9: California is terrible.
10: Screw California.
11: I'm DEFINITELY making a road trip to California once the Corvair is road trip worthy. Gonna run my straight glasspacks, going to find a spare engine, going to stop in a Walmart Parking lot and start swapping heads. Maybe a PD parking lot.
12: You can bet some ***hole lobbyist for a national lube-monkey chain is pushing this as a safety and environmentalism thing.
13: Screw California.
14: You can pry my wrench from my cold, dead hands. Or try, anyway.
15: I hope this gets appealed at the federal level and makes a big scene the first time they try to enforce it.

The only tiny bright spot is that the out of control HOA-like stupidity is currently limited to Sacramento county, though the state seems determined to ban fossil fueled vehicles altogether, so it's not all that shocking. And they wonder why so many residents are moving away from California?

Its kind of expected from a one party dominated state. But more importantly, the EPA is making Motorsports and modding "street" vehicles illegal! This is a bigger issue than a small city in a state that is completely ruined economically and morally by identity politics.

If they get away with it. EPA has tried that before, but they have yet to write a regulation that survived the kickback from the motorsports community. Be part of that kickback.
