Hi folks,

I'm an MR2 owner but now I need something with back seats. I've always liked the 240SX, and now I think I finally have a reason to switch.

Performance is my highest requirement (right behind 4 seats). I'm looking at buying an S14, but I've read some reviews lately saying that the S14 was more aimed at the luxury-coupe buyer (heavy car, soft suspension), as compared with the S13 which was more of a sports coupe.

What's the stock handling like of the S14, say an SE? Is it a "driver's car"?

All opinions appreciated! Thanks,

-John

S14 is a great car... but if you are buying it to have back seats... then ... don't buy the car... it is suposed to be a 2+2 car but it's not.. you barely have ANY room in the back.. I don't ever use mine.. I love the handeling of it.. it is an awesome car.. and no it is nto too soft at all.. regardless... you probably will change the suspension anyway so who cares.. but my opinion may be a little biased but oowell.. hope i helped

Not true! You will be hard pressed to find a better handling / looking car for the money that an S14 would cost you. And the car isnt that heavy, around 2700 lbs, if memory serves me correctly. And like everyone else says, the back seat is really only useful for collecting junk.

I love my S14 a lot more than my S13 (both are/were coupes) I've done about the same suspension work to both, not a whole lot of difference in handleing, but the 14 drives SO much better (read easier to live with) and it has the midship mounted gastank which helps the handleing not change quite so much when you fill up the tank (as opposed to the S13 where it's way back there in the arse end.

besides S14's look better both inside and out

Find an older Infinity, Lexus, Bimmer, Mercedes... all these cars have decent back seats and a decent after market... all rwd, and prestige...

How can you loose?

i know i know, i would never do that either, but its just an exaple of what can fit back there. actually, it may even be difficult for that to fit.

If they are midgits... 3, adults and comfortable do not belong in the same sentence...

Bah! Mines all stock....A friend of mine asked me If I had sportlines the other day. And it was the first time he had ridden in it. She has a lot less body roll than some! I agree with Big Jon...You'll be hard pressed to find a better handling/looking car for the money.

Well my tires suck so that is part of the problem, i feel more confident taking turns fast in 98 prelude, well at least exit/on ramps faster. My bushings are also shot :(.

Ya I just need to get one baby-seat back there, so a 2+2 should be big enough for my needs, for a few years at least!

I have a second-gen MR2 Turbo ('93), I'm 6'2" and I fit with plenty of room to spare. I actually have the seat two clicks forward from all the way back! (three clicks fwd on track days :D ). Even though it's a small car, the no-back-seat thing leaves plenty of room for front occupants.

I've been a passenger in some first-gen MR2s ('85-'89), and I fit reasonably well. Haven't driven one yet, though.

Speaking of fit, I've driven my buddy's S13 and my right knee was pinched between the steering wheel and the handbrake the whole time! Kinda dangerous when trying to make sharp turns. Any tall S13 owners out there?

Thanks for all the comments guys, please keep them coming! Anyone driven a gen2 MR2 and an S14, on stock suspensions? Can you compare them?

Babies cut into the mods budget like y'all wouldn't believe! There won't be a lot of cash kicking around for springs, shocks and sways, so I want to make sure that whatever I get to replace the MR2 doesn't drive like a wet marshmallow.
