The MAF's are different. I was just talking to Orion about this same topic. If it was a simple HotWire type then it would be easy. I'm still working on idea's. I actually think I have the problem solved, I just need to try it out when I get back. Patience my friend...

I was just thinking while reading this post of an option that might work.

Ive been pondering this question for a while, cause I also have a sohc that I though about this option on.

Im not sure how exactly the MAF works, but couldnt you add a resistor to the path of the wires, as long as it sends an electrical signal.

I know that you would max out the airflow at the same point as a regular one, but that would allow you to use 370cc injectors, as long as you matched the resistace to change the message going to the ECU so that it thought the air flow was that much smaller.

what does everyone think about this

thanks guys... i just dont see how it could be different from hacking a s14 maf, or any other MAF for that matter.

Because it's such a different construction...

The internals of the S13 MAF are different from the S14 MAF, thats how. Give it a try though. Let us know what happens.

I had an idea the other day... I see these "power mods" on ebay that supposedly add a resistor to your mafs that makes your timing advance and all that....

couldn't you just add the opposite to make the timing retard and make it more turbo friendly?

i tried one of those resistor things. it just plugs into one of the plugs right before the throttle. basicly it made my sohc run rich. theirs more to it but thats the basics.

hotwire, or at least on the sohc. I did a 3 inch afm and it works fine. Just by doing some math i was able to use a 3 inch afm and 550cc injectors then a S-AFC to tune out the little quirks.

The DE S13 is a hotwire as well, but it's funkified.

topstreet,

you used a different MAF? how did you change your setup to accomodate it.? does it give the same signal as the sohc MAF??

no no no... i used the sohc maf, i just opened the whole pipe up 3inchs so that more air could flow in. Its a hotwire system so its only going to read 1 to 5 volts, we just expanded the whole maf/afm so that when it sees 5 volts it is just seeing more air.

Heh...thats cool. I have another idea, instead of opening up the MAF to a specific size, you could add an air supply aft of the MAF. Somthing like another tube with a filter installed on the end. Preferable pulling air from the area as the normal filter, so its getting the same temp air and any other variables. I'll probably mess with this throey when I get back. Seems pretty straight forward though. Same principles as the hacked MAF.

I used a whole new pipe, and made a bracket to house the mafs... then welded it in so that i had a true 3inch afm.
