I put one of these on my old 280Z and it was a great option. Easy to install, massive improvement over cracked dash, and the only person who knew it was a coverlay was me. Had the same issue with lines on the side but they have to stop somewhere and the doors are usually shut anyway. Being a bit of a perfectionist, it did always bug me and I viewed it as a temporary option until I found an all new dash and had the time to swap it. But I never did....
As others said any sort of upholstery most always comes out looking worse, unless you're heavily modifying the dash into some sort of show car dash, closing off all the vents, etc. Those are definitely the hardest to deal with, especially since the thickness of the material means things won't fit right any more. The better option is to build an all-new custom dash in fiberglass, make it smooth, paint it, etc. but that's a MAJOR job.
I'm with others who said they'd have a hard time going to a junkyard and paying $100 or more for a non-cracked one because it IS going to crack. With my luck it would crack just as I tightened the final bolt upon installation. This is a well-known weakness of the S13 and a reason some choose an S14 (BTW, probably why Coverlay isn't making them for S14s yet, just not a big enough market...passenger airbag may be another).
So to me it's either coverlay or NOS dash. Anyone ever check what a new one would be from a dealer? A post above said OEM was less than $100 but I don't think they meant New Old Stock, I think they meant a 20 year old used one.
