So I got a 92 240sx, and something is going on with the clutch. My clutch pedal usually has a half inch of play before I feel any pressure against my foot while depressing the pedal. Yesterday, I noticed that the amount of play in the pedal increased a bit, but I didn't think anything of it.

I hop in my 240 this morning to find out that I have to push the pedal at least halfway down before I feel any pressure at all, and the clutch is grabbing when I have the pedal nearly to the floor. This seems to have happened out of nowhere, I'm not the best driver but I sure as hell know that I didn't burn out the clutch in a day. I'm only 17 so I haven't seen my fair share of clutch related issues yet, so I'm hoping that you guys can point me in the right direction.

Thanks in advance

Could be a thin disk, but you should try a flush/bleed and clutch rod adjustment.

If that doesn't work I would say check slave and master for leaks. Slave. Is on the passenger side of the trans and master check under your dash where the rod goes into it. If one is bad ...me personally would replace both.

This just happened to me, check the fluid in your clutch master cylinder.Like compactfean said look for leaks too. Mine was leaking on the inside of my car right where my clutch pedal was. I had to replace the master cylinder. Easy repair. GL

So bleeding the system and adjusting the clutch rod seemed to have done the trick. The I checked both the master and slave cylinder and didn't find any leaks, so I guess I'm in the clear. (though I haven't had a chance to drive the car yet, I'm snowed in :frown: ) The only thing I'm wondering now is, how the hell did this happen? And what can I do to prevent it in the future?

just monitor your clutch lines to make sure there is no leak...not just at the master/slave but the whole line. There is a dampener box in the middle of the line too. It sounds like your rod just got out of adjustment. Just make sure that the locking nut on it is tight. Maybe a drop of blue locktight if it has a problem backing out.
