I appreciate the invite! even if it does require me buying your whole family (including dog) dinner. Maybe afterward we can go to Duffy's, drink a swimming pool's worth of alcohol, and then stumble to the Broadview at 5am to eat a delicious skillet that will leave you feeling terrible in the morning. I wouldn't be up there until August, so I thought this was a fair bt of warning.

Back to the car, it is awesome as hell, and there is no doubt in my mind that it "hauls balls."

First off, have you spent a lot of time in the Burg? Not many people know of the drinking till late, then going to Broadview for yummy breakfast foods...that's awesome that you know that.

Last time I was home, my friend and I did that...and continue to do so every time I get home.

The other thing, Pop doesn't drink and he's old...lol. No need for him to be going out partying like that. LOL.

Hey, everyone.

Not a whole lot going on with the wagon, but there has been a definate improvement for it's berthing space.

Keep an eye open in the very near future...possibly tonight...for a new thread showing off the new home for the S.S. Going Broke.

Also, just thought I would bring the old girl back up to the top.

TTFN!

Really not much to update on, Tristan. I am waiting for my friend in Missouri to finish a couple other projects before he can start work on the wagon.

As soon as something gets done, I'll let everyone know.

Well, kids. I do have an update on the car, but you'll all have to wait till tomorrow. It's late, I have to work early and I need sleep so I can keep my grouchy butt...grouchy.

Be back soon.

Greg, you're still planning on coming to Neal's BBQ this Summer, right?

OK...so, as I mentioned earlier, I have some updates for ya. It's early here and I have to be leaving for work shortly, so I'll make this...um...short.

So, after months of waiting for a certain person to get to work on my car, I took it to the same place that redid my fuel and brake lines shortly after I got it. They also took care of that pesky not-wanting-to-go-into-park issue the car had. I literally had to use wheel chocks for the first few months I had the thing. It still has some issues, like no speedo, one of the rear wheel hubs eventually going to crap quicker than it should...etc.

So, about the only real update I have is that the car is going into get this put in.

I am getting it in teal with no clock, and according to the website, it's a direct replacement for the stock dash. I also got the Factory Fit wiring harness as well.

Well, it's time for me to get the hell outta here. You all have a wonderful day.

Ok. Got an update for all of you.

Well, I finally got the Dakota Digital dash put in last week and had the Mrs. pick up the car on Friday because it was finally going to Missouri to my friends place to start the restoration/rebuild.

A few things on the dash. The fuel display is in percentage and not gallons. Takes a bit of getting used to, but hey, it works. The speedo and tach both have digital readouts and also a bar readout above that. Dash still needs the button(s) to go between trip and normal odometer and also the demo mode for when car is not running...if I understand the instructions for it.

On the exterior of the car, I eventually want to change from round mirrors to rectangular mirrors. Having some thoughts about the roof rack and whether or not I want to put it back on. Re-chroming, according to a shop I talked to, seems to be, and I quote, "Astronomical. You can't afford it." Anyone know any good shops that don't charge arms, legs and testicles to re-chrome? Or anyone know any good places to find trim parts for wagons?

I'm also hoping to have a new gas tank made for it that is set up for fuel injected engines. The current one is just cobbled together and has an external electric pump. The one I'd like to get made will have fuel delivery/return lines and an internal pump with an access plate along with baffles inside it. But, just depends on what it's all going to cost in the long run. Damn hobbies that cost money!

Also would like to get some mint/near mint Chevy Ralley wheels for her too. Ideally, I'd like 14", but with my disk brake conversions, I don't know if the rotors/calipers will fit inside. So, might have to go with 15", possibly 16". Will try to get 7" wide in the front and 8" wide for the rears. Wish me luck on that.

Well, now the car is down at my friends place for a year or so while he does his thing. He does all the work by himself in a shop that started out as a plant nursery then eventually converted to a body shop. Let's hope the car turns out as nice as I'd like it to be.

And now to tide you over...some pictures.
First of the Dakota Digital dash.
Yeah, it's dirty in there, but hey...it'll be nice and clean when I get it back.

I will continue to keep you all updated as best I can as I get updates it.
Let's hope the next one has some nice photos to go with it so I can keep Neal busy.

Thanks for looking, everyone!

Cool stuff, Pop! Good to see Rick could get ya in, finally.

Keep me up to date on what's going on with her. If it's not to much trouble while we're home, would maybe like to take a trip down there to see her.

i likes where this is going now. Saw this thread when it first started but wasn't interested. However, with my re-kindling fetish for all automobiles manufactured before year 2000, within the past 2 weeks, i can't help but to be really interested.

Nice build...

You can get Corvette style rally wheels on ebay for around 300 a set (full chome, painted or non). Personally I prefer the flat center caps instead of the extended "derby" style.

You plan on keeping the car white or going for another color? I didn't see that mentioned.

Couple of snails on some custom made exhaust manifolds would be nice too...lol. But, there is a bit of a budget on this.

Matt, I believe he is planning on keeping it white. He had some ideas floating around, but not sure what exactly he's going to do. As far as I know, he's going to keep it as stock looking as possible to make it as close to the 63 wagon my grandfather had way back when pop was a pup.

Sounds good. I hoped he wasn't going for the satin black look like lots of people seem to do today.

Anyway...need to address something.
Oatmealman wrote:It needs a 455 with a blower though that lt1 isn't gonna have a whole lotta bang behind such a massive car.
Oatmealman wrote:I hate to do this greg but i've driven full bolt on lt1 and it still was nothing quick.I have a hard time believing that a lt1 is moving that car even remotely fast.
I usually don't do things like this, but for some reason, your comments really got under my skin.

Before you go popping off at the mouth, know a couple of things. The guy restoring my car knows power. He has owned the same 3rd gen Corvette for well over 30 years. In that time, it's gone through many stages of fast. He's also too old to be fabricating stories, so you can't say he made it up. Why in the world would a guy that's older than dinosaurs (sorry, Rick. Had to!)...and that goes for me, as well...have to make up a story to impress a bunch of kids?

When it's done...you're more than welcome to come and take a look and see for yourself, but I doubt you will, so no use being stupid in an old car.

You can tell me it's got power all you want, but I've driven a full bolt on lt1 and sure it gets up and moves but it's nothing special.until you've driven a 680 rwhp cobra or a blown ls1 in a rx7 you'll continue to think that a bolt on lt1 is quick. When you finally do drive something with a massive amount of power you'll understand where i'm coming from.Hell even my buddy's cummins with close to 1200ft lbs of torque is quick moving a dually pick up, like i said though when you drive some real power you'll understand.

You just don't get it do you...I mean really...you just don't get it.

I never said my car was "OH MY GOD" fast. Or that it had more power than I know what to do with. What I said, in not so many words was, for what this engine is in, for it being pretty much a stock LT1 out of a late 90's Impala SS, it does its job quite well...getting the car from point A to point B without having to struggle.

And as for you saying that I don't know power...well, you're right. I guess I am just not so lucky to have driven a monster horsepower Cobra or a charged LS in an RX7. So, I say this to you.

GOOD FOR YOU! I'M REAL PROUD OF YA!!!

I'm over 50 years old...do you really think I care what you have either driven or ridden in? What matters is...this is my car...to me it's quick and has the torque and power to make me giggle like a little girl whenever should I give it a bit of gas. It's my build and you nor anyone else on this forum has any right to criticize me on what I decide to do with MY CAR. Your opinions are appreciated, and hell, ya never know...I may even follow through with some of them.

Oh, and one more thing...you don't know me well enough to call me bro...
