For those of us who don't have fancy Paddle shifters.. Use the overdrive button on the left of the shifter to quickly drop a gear for extra speed burst. This works at any speed, not just highway cruising.

I'm not sure if the SL has the OD button?

..And yes ...it does work pretty good as a quick downshift for...passing...hills...engine braking going down hills. I use it from time to time....handy little button.

Just so everyone knows what is being talked about here. I had no idea, my SL AWD does not have this switch...

We don't have one because it'd be redundant; a quick blip or two of the downshift paddle or pulling the stick to the left and then a blip or two in the downshift direction will do the same on our cars.

Good idea about using it for the engine brake too, good for snow stopping situations.
