Hello, quick new and I guess everyone joins because they have a specific question. Mine is that I have a 2014 Rogue. Over the weekend it seemed to develop these corrosion which seem to be coming up through the top coat and not the other way through. The collision specialist at Nissan seemed to think that something spilled on it. Question is what would cause the bottom to rust without eating away the enamel first? The little circles are all hard little spots because the enamel is holding everything there. If you take your time and scrape it away, you can see in the bottom picture that the metal is rusting underneath? Is this a common problem or did something weird actually drip on it??Image

something spilled onto your car. and there is no "enamel" (aka clear coat). we have a single-stage paint job. that means the paint & clear coat are mixed together and sprayed as one layer.

are you sure thats not just bird shhhht?

Positive it's not bird poop. And I got the whatever protective spray thatbthebwife talked me into, that went over the top of the paint. Teflon or clear coat. Something of that nature.

that wears away within 6-8 months. its not a real teflon coating. its a total scam. its made by teflon, but its just a normal high quality wax.

Yeah my guess would be that is bird s***. I had a bird s*** on the hood of my rogue and didn't drive the car for at least a day then saw it and it left like a stain that I couldn't buff out. Was told I would have to wet sand it. But after a good buffing you can barely see it unless right up on it.

anyway if the bird s*** sat on there long enough it might of done that. Otherwise someone dripped some kind of acid on your car.

Here is a quick google of bird poop, https://www.google.com/search?q=bird+po ... 66&bih=630

That last picture of yours looks like bird poop

Well f@ck me running. Really should do more research. I just brought it over to a friend's and we looked at it through a flashlight while sprinkling. Noticed it had some weird reflective properties And was sticky. Might have been tree sap I dunno but the top one cleaned up in the sprinkle. Gonna get some goo gone and try The other spots. As they don't want to come up so easy. Thanks for the help.

If you are looking for a DIY style coating/sealant for your car, there are many great solutions (Opti Seal, GTechniq, etc) that are extremely easy to apply. Some can last several years. Coatings/sealants such as these should make most things very easy to spray off without damaging the clear coat.

If this is of interest to you, a detailing forum like AutoGeek is a great place to find reviews. Some are extremely detailed, and even post followup:

Here is a video from an awesome detailing shop on their Gtechniq application to give you an idea:
