my roommates just got a new car this weekend, a 2002 mustang v6 5 speed with 63000 miles. they found it online and drove 4 hours to get it. a mustang (v6, v8, auto, 5 speed, doesnt matter) has been her "dream car" for the past 10 years (but she HATES ANYTHING between 1971-2001).on the way back home after picking it up the check engine light went on, so i told them they need to take it to the loacal ford dealer and have them check it out. well they did, when they got back i asked what the problem was. "i dont know they wanted $74." wft youve wanted this car for 10 years and when you get one $74 is to much to make sure its ok?

any ways, is $74 to much to find out what is wrong with your "dream car"?

Well, she appears to have some taste. '71 was the year the Mustang started downhill. 2005 was a step back in the right direction, but still not my style.

I just think it's funny she won't take an '01 but is okay with an '02. It's the same car with a slightly different yet still very ugly body.

Chicks LOVE Fox4 Mustangs. Especially convertible auto V6s. There's a girl down the street from me that has a silver '02 convertible v6 auto with the "MUSTANG" in the rear bumper painted pink. That car basically sums up my thoughts on the model as a whole (post 1970, of course...I'd eat babies for a '60s first gen).

I dont know if I would say the 05' models started picking back up. Cause I went to look at them just out of curiousity and the interior was just...blah!...too simple and cheap plastic and that was the upgraded model. At least the V has non-cheap plastic and some swayd (sorry if I spelled that wrong). And I was told by a few people that the 08's interiors are no different.

It's funny that no matter how much (or little) a bill from the dealer is, it's automatically a rip-off. (And yes sometimes it is, but less than $100, come on...a good friend of mine when I was younger just HAD to have a Mustang. The only one she could afford was a 4-cylinder auto notchback (yes this was the 80's) that had been in an accident. THat thing was possibly the worst, slowest POS around. GT Mustangs (or at least 5.0 ones) were OK but 4-cylinder Mustangs were just wrong.

I drove an auto V6 '07 rental for a couple days and while I would definitely NEVER buy one, it wasn't a horrible car.The big complaints I had with it were the goofy dash (angled up toward the driver!?) the stupid Power Wheels parts bin shifter, and the V6 itself (while not gutless, it was brash, noisy, unpleasant sounding, and just felt like it would have been more at home in a midsize truck than a small coupe) and the usual Ford things (all the same Ford design quirks that drove me nuts on my '95 Ranger were present in the '07 Mustang as well...).

Still, it was a BIG step up from the previous model and something I could happily tolerate driving daily (again, not that I would BUY one, but I wouldn't mind driving one.

Yeah same here for the most part. If I was to ever drive one I'd want it to have the V8 just so I can tear those tires up

Yup, AutoZone and I think Advance Auto Parts will tell you the code and what it means for free as long as you get there before dark. They don't do that service after dark for security reasons. I had a check engine light come on on my S-10. Turned out to be the forward oxygen sensor. Bought one there and tried to put it on. I never could get it off so I took it to Midas and they had to take a blow torch to it to get the old one off. I was laughin' my a$$ off because I saw the guy under my truck on the lift with a wrench it he was hanging from up jumping up and down trying to get it off. Gotta love Chevy....not.

What they said. Free is better than $74.

It could be something as simple as the gas cap didn't get tightened correctly, but on a car that's 6 months old, you can probably expect it to be a sensor failure of some sort. It's not likely to be anything that will cause immediate damage to the engine, but it's almost guaranteed to affect the emissions system. If you need to pass emissions to transfer title on the car, it would be best to get it checked and fixed ASAP.

(Last CEL I got on a car that was NOT caused by the gas cap was a failing MAF sensor)

Chevy makes good vehicles, not all S-10s had that problem. Though S-10s were once of the junky chevy vehicles I think. I want to get the new Silverado soooooo bad but cant afford it or the gas.

I just speak from experience. I bought my '98 S-10 brand new. The first 4 months I had it it was in the shop 3 times for major warranty repairs. Then at 53k miles my clutch plate and slave cylinder went out ($1000+ repair). It was a 4-cylinder so I wasn't peeling out and all that. My third door handle broke $80 repair. My drivers side mirror fell off $85 repair. My drivers seat reclining handle broke $75 repair. My master cylinder went out a year or so later $900 repair. Trading in that truck and getting a brand new '04 Xterra...priceless.

Domestics....never again.
