Just hit 30,000 miles on my 2007 SL CVT. We've really been enjoying the Versa and have done three round trip drives from Florida to New York without a problem.

We're looking at solutions for being able to pack a little more efficiently and not cramming so much in the back of the car (we also have 2 dogs who share the back seat with a big dog hammock).

Anyone here have a hard top of bag carrier for their rooftop? Care to share any photos and reviews? I've seen some good weather proof bags with 13-16 extra square feet of space which would be a big help. But we're typically driving up to NY in the Winter months so we need it weather proofed to protect our cargo from snow/rain/sleet etc etc.

Thanks!

I think the less than stellar MPG's on a lot of Versa's are the result of it's boxy design and resulting wind resistance. I shudder to think of what the MPG's would be on a long trip with that big box on top of the roof.

I have a Scangauge in my Versa and actually see what instantly happens to the mpg's in head wind and tailwind conditions.

Here's an interesting number ...while driving at 70 mph in the passing lane behind a big Semi...the gauge was registering 29 MPG's..I tucked back in a few car lengths back from the truck and kept an eye on the Scan gauge...it jumped to 42 MPG!

Pulled back out at the same speed and it dropped back to 29.

About the same number difference when driving into a head wind, and turning around on the same stretch of road..from 28 mpg, jumping immediatly up to 42 and 43 mpg.

Still, if you need to pack a big load from time to time the Versa Roof Box idea would be more fuel friendly than my old Ford F 150.

Can't wait to see what everybody shows up with in the X-Prize race. One guy who says he's entering his car claims he is getting 85 mpg out of his old Mustang with a ton of engine mods mostly Patent Pending.
