Black 92 vert in Denver.

5speed with t3/t4 KAT, etc.... feels like about 230 to the wheels right now...

Still figuring out what I did wrong with the wiring that's stopping my top-logic from thinking the car is in park, so with the auto->5speed swap I also went from "auto" to "manual" on the top...

Just purchased yesterday, 93 with a bad head. Plans are to rebuild engine and convert to 5spd ad LSD 18" wheels and have a fun summer car. Also looking for a place to purchase a carpet kit and some interior parts.

a good upholstery shop should be able to recarpet your car. The carpet is no different from a coupe carpet.

I have a How To article in this sub forum for 5 speed swaps. It pertains to SR and KA 5 speeds. Good luck!

hey,

I'm new to this board. I have a '93 'vert, red with a zenki front...

here's the background... I bought it last year for $900. it had 131k miles and some major body damage (the owner had rear ended another car). fortunately, my friend had a '90 hatch with 260k on its dead engine. using that as a donor, I spent the summer doing body work and swapping in its 5spd... so that's how my car came to have a pignose front. I actually like it better, since it's the signature grille style that nissan's adopting on all its cars now. I'll post some pics as soon as I can.

Didn't see my name on the list either. I joined a couple of weeks ago, and I've got a black '92, all stock, with about 122,000 on it.

Might as well be added to the list.

I am an old timer in the 240sx community. First 240sx in 92ish, vert come on to the roster in 95-96?. Glad to see this sub section of the board is coming along. I dont post much (lurker) at all but its nice to see a very specific vert section.

Little about my vert. over the course of the years it has become more of a video and audio show. I am now redirecting the car to become more of an audio spectacle (as we all know deep down the vert is NOT a car that can handle).

Look forward to contributing as much as I can.

i wouldn't go that far. in all honesty, the car doesn't flex that much. All it needs to make it as rigid as a coupe is a roll bar. I can jack my car up by the nose and the doors still open and close just fine. I haven't ran across a coupe that can do that, yet.

I noticed this the other night while had my vert jacked up while replacing the brake pads. I have to say I was impressed, if not surprised. My Mx3 and Rx7, while solid as all getout while driving on rough roads, would twist like a pretzel while on a jack, so much that I would be hesitant to open a door because it would have to stay open until I dropped the car off the jack. My 240 vert, on the other hand, which does the jitterbug when I hit even a small pothole, stays stiff as a dead cat while on a jack. The driver door opens and closes with a nice, solid 'whump' like its sitting level on the ground. Go figure...

I agree... I had my car up on jackstands (front higher than rear) for months while I was doing my 5spd swap. the doors opened and closed just fine, which I did innumerable times while fitting & installing the clutch/brake pedal). perhaps if I had a jackstand at only one corner things would be different. I've heard that the interior door panels often sag on older verts, which make the doors seem uneven. but if you take those off the doors thud normally.

btw, I think the interior door panels were custom made by asc. I have no proof other than the fact that they're made from cheap, brittle plastic. comparing them to the panels on a regular hatch, it's quite a difference.

anyway, I plan to get a roll hoop with rear shock tower braces to help the cause... does anyone know any good shops in the washington dc area?

unfortunately, I don't know of any shops in the DC area that can do that. One of my friends knows a guy in the area that's going to custom make a rollbar for our verts in the near future.

I've also been talking to one of my friends in North Carolina. Her dad is a pit crew chief for one the Craftsmen Truck Series teams. Her brother and her father are both proficient with cage and bar fabrication. After the season is over, I might be able to convince him to make one for me.

it's a HUGE difference.

i've finally starting to remove the seat belt assembly from ebony's doors. the convertible door panels should have a big fragile sticker plastered across them. all the plastic fasteners that hold the panels to the doors were broken. the panels were just hanging there! the trim pieces for the window controls are like thin ice.

i've replaced the driver's side door panel with one from a coupe but still have the convertible panel on the passenger's side. the difference is night and day. they use different fasteners and the trim pieces (even though they look exactly alike) are a different grade of plastic. when i hit a bump in the road, the convertible panel makes all kinds of noise while the coupe panel is as silent as a mouse.

AZhitman,

pics of my car can be found on my website at takamotorsports.com...the car exterior has remained the same for quite some time...I am currently working on putting a competition sound system in it now. I just finished the fiberglassing the entire trunk and rear seat area. Came out of paint...looks nice. Now comes the fun part, the electical.

What I meant to say about the convertible is this. {puts on flame jumper suit} It cannot handle. I don't to cherry coat anything at all. I love my convertible, hands down its a great crusier, however taking into account the weight of the car the lack of bracing necessary to put this car in the same league as the hardtop coupe is not even close. How do I know. I own two other coupes. Once you begin to push the car, it becomes as apparent as day. Not to say some people won't try it. Roll bars, cages, do luck x bar, ladder bars, strut bars. Have them all but a roll bar/cage and it helps...but just not enough...The next step for me is the roll bar/cage but not just yet. {takes off flame jumper suit}

That being said, I hope to contribute as much as I can.

thanks

I'm "down" with being marked down.

I've had my '92 for three years. It's good to see a convertible-specific forum.

Yeah, the "oldbald_sarge" bought a 94 last summer. She has about 135k on her. I'll find any excuse to go out and get bread, milk, hey, I'll even start smoking so I can go out for cigarettes. (JK).

Someone tell me about fixing the AT slipping problem. HELP!!!

What a great site for ALL the 240 owners. But the verts rule.
