I've put almost 3000 miles on my car which includes lots of mountain driving and plenty of 200+ mile trips for work and haven't had a single issue. You're the first on this forum(atleast I think) to describe such a problem so I would just consider it bad luck. I hope you get your car back soon and that this doesn't happen to you a second time(which I doubt it will).

No CAPS please... it's really hard on the eyes.

Look, there are going to be a couple problems now and then. You were unlucky and got a bad block. It's fully warrantied and the dealership will replace your engine for you. You'll have a brand new one. That new engine will also be under warranty.

So wait til they get the new engine installed and don't worry about things.. it will be good as new.

DO YOU THINK IF YOU WRITE IN ALL CAPS IT MAKES IT ALL THAT MORE IMPORTANT!!!! .....!!!!!.... 10:16am!!!!

Seriously, that sucks. But as long as the dealer is replacing the engine as quickly as possible (which they should be hopefully) and it's warrantied it should all work out. Good luck.

Thats some bad luck. This is the first major failure report I have seen in any Rogue. These things do happen sometimes in a machine made by man, as long as the failure rates are rare it doesn't concern me. You are covered by a waranty so I would not worry about this to much. Still a bummer though.

Hello All!

Just signed up and hope to be a future Rogue owner. I've been reading all the posts from months ago and have to say great forum and members. I had to sign up to reply to this thread as I've seen so much of this junk on other forums.

The OP signed up with a user name of "LMNROGUE" which means Lemon Rogue. Why would anyone use this name? Isn't this kind of odd? New user, first post is about a major problem and types in all caps with terrible grammer? No posts since? Sorry but this is . Must be someone that work's for Honda or Toyota trying to put negative thoughts into potential Rogue owners.

Anyway, hate for this to be my first post but I've seen it to many times and it really bugs me. Are there problems? Yes of course but seems too fishy...post the proof.

Welcome SONNY!

You might be right about this. You are very observant. I didn't even catch that inference in the OP's name.

Still, it wouldn't surprise me to hear about an occasional flaw in manufacturing. That's what warranties are for right? I'm sure there will be a few Rogue's here and there that will need to have a short block replaced. As long as this is infrequent, it wouldn't concern me.

Frankly I'm surprised it took this long to hear a story such as this. It's the first major malfunction I've heard.. The Rogue has been out for 3+ months and sold 20k+ units in North America.. There are bound to be a couple engine blocks that weren't honed perfectly, or had some issue.

What would concern me more is if Nissan didn't stand behind the product. Even if this story is a hoax, it sounds like the service department is giving no hassle and replacing the engine at no cost to the owner. The owner will only need a rental vehicle for a short time and then it will be good as new!

So far I'm incredibly pleased with the Rogue's reliability. We've heard only a few common complaints from the design of the vehicle, and very few actual reports of malfunction. So far so good!!!

Crap happens, but I don't hear of many Altima 2.5 engines going out so this is certainly a VERY rare issue.

To the OP, if you're not full of crap, the new engine will be just fine; it's save to drive.

I am not sure what his beef is. Yes it was defective and Nissan is fixing.

At least your under warranty.

Now that I think about it, who the heck starts posts with "To whom it may concern"? I won't be coming back to this thread, it smells fishy.

I agree, they have been using the QR25 in the Sentra and Altima for quite a while and it has been a fairly reliable engine, unless you have a butterfly screw come loose...

If they put a new engine in, I don't see what the problem is. Chalk it up to bad luck.

Let's no go there about QR25DE reliability. Besides the issues with the butterfly valve screws, there was the failed pre-catalytic converter issue on the '02-'03's (both Sentra and Altima). I was one of the unfortunate ones with pre-cat failure and had my '03 Alty's engine replaced under warranty at 82,0000km due to high oil consumption. I got great service from the dealer and Nissan seems to have fixed the root cause of the problem. The replacement motor now has 125,000km on it and no issues.

I do not own a Rogue, but my test drive of one was very positive. The 2nd gen QR seems to be much smoother. And one would assume this secon gen motor would have the bugs worked out. I would love to test drive a used example with a few miles/km on it to see how the QR behaves.

Yeah the problem sucks, but at least I would think of it as "Hey fresh start on the engine!" However I would have put up a stink with the dealer demanding a new vehicle.
