If you've concluded you need to remove your oil pump, then why don't you refresh the areas that depended heavily upon your failed oil pump (ie bearing, rings, seals). The only way to truly do this without hassle is to remove the engine. And you do not need to remove the transmission to remove the oil pan.jt15833 wrote:i knew the time would come when I need to replace the oil pump on my CA, and its here. After looking under the car, the issues I know ill run into is that
a) transmission has to come off to remove oil pan
and
b) can i remove oil pan with crossmember in way?
ive got access to a lift and transmission jacks/stands anything you can imagine. For this motor, you guys think it'd be easier to remove the entire motor from car and replace the oil pump or leave motor in car and just remove transmission and do something with x-member?
thanks
Especially when dealing with the crank sprocket that was designed by Satan himself.float_6969 wrote:It can be done in the car w/o removing the transmission.
It would be a MAJOR pain, and would be MUCH easier out of the car.
im sorry but LMFAO!!!c-rad wrote:Especially when dealing with the crank sprocket that was designed by Satan himself.
Sounds easier said than done. At least without damaging the crank.sideways danny wrote:to get a seized on sprocket off with the engine out, turn the engine upside down, remove sump, undo the oil pump bolts, use levers to pry the pump forwards and blocks of wood and large hammers to drift the pump and sprocket off the crank
so literally true here, I had two motors and I killed both pumps getting them off tootyrannix wrote:thats why i didnt have an oil pump when i rebuilt. i had to destroy them to get the crank off... because that little biotch wouldnt come out... on both engines
