I backed into my friends car in January and dented the right side of my back bumper. I only damaged the bumper cover and I refuse to go through my insurance to fix it cause in the end it's just going to cost me more.

Is that something I could order through a Nissan dealer? I know when I messed up a Chevy I had I ordered the part straight from the dealer. The body shop could order it but.. it's going to cost almost $900 for them to fix it. I'd rather do it myself and just pay for paint.

Is it flat out dented or are there creases?

P.S. I hope I spelled that right

I called my dealership and they told me an unpainted bumper is $260 with tax. Now I have to find out how much painting something like that would cost. It can't be TOO much right?

It'll beat the $900 the auto body shop was going to charge me..

I have a feeling it was another case where they figured I'm a girl and don't know any better.

They were going to charge $400 in labor... I can get my brother to put the new one on for a pizza and a beer.

I'm hoping paint doesn't cost more than $300 but, who knows. I also don't want a crappy paint job.

Yuck. I'm lucky to not have any damage to anything other than the bumper. I'm just trying to keep this off of my insurance and I mean, I have a $500 deductible anyway

Try a MAACO auto body. Shouldn't cost more than $130

Bumpers are designed to collapse on impact. There may be more damage that you can't see. It may have been pushed a bit sideways and something may have bent making it more difficult that a simple replacement. Just a thought.

That was already looked at. There's no damage to the bumper itself, just the cover. I literally rolled into her car. My foot wasn't even on the gas

Or Earl Scheib. Both are in the same league, they will do inexpensive paint blending on a single panel for less than $200.

I just had a car painted at Earl Scheib and have been happy with the work.

Since we're on the topic of painting something lol. My friend has a civic hatch and someone hit it with their truck. We both got the dents out but he needs it completely sanded and re-painted. What are some good places to match a certain color code? He doesnt want to go to the dealer because they will charge him alot.

I had my Miata painted twice. THe first time I got a cheap, budget job (not from Maaco but a place like it). They did a horrible job, from 10 feet away you could see all the drips and they missed a couple spots. I complained and took it back but "That's the job you paid for" was all they did. (I had done the prep work, all they did was spray it) THat job cost $1500. To top it off, the paint started peeling 6 months afterwards... grrr! I saved and saved and had a good body shop (I asked around everywhere to find the best place, (go to the shop that the Porsche/MB dealer sends their work to) That job looked just about perfect, mostly because they dissasembled the whole car and stripped it down to metal. Of course that job cost $5500, and that was just to match the original color. I was thinking of changing the color, but the quote they gave me was $9500 with "standard paint", metallic/pearl or custom-mixed colors could be up to $3000 more than that. If you truly don't care what the finished product looks like, get the cheap job done. IF you want it to look GOOD, you will pay out the nose for a quality job.

http://www.stylusscustoms.com/....html oh yeah if you feel up to a challenge, there's tons of sites about painting your car with a roller and this "Rustoleum" paint and they seem to turn out fine. Here's another onehttp://www.rickwrench.com/inde....html

It was $840 when I had to bring my V in to get a similar bumper job last may...

However, I had to have them replace a tail light too, I had someone just roll into me...

$900 is absurd for just the bumper.

Well he just took it to the dealer this morning and they qouted him a little over $400 for the whole hatch. He said it included taking off the rear window, sanding it all down, new primer, new paint, new clear coat. Thats not a bad deal if you ask me.

First care I ever owned: 1960 Ford Fairlane, found in a farmer's field. A roller, a brush, and leftover green house paint from a job we were doing (working my way through university as a painter) and . . . voilá . . . the alligator came into being.

I wouldn't do it to a "real" car . . . but it was a car that had been sitting in the field for a while. Fred Flintstone would have been proud of me -- if I'd tried I could have put my feet through the floor and not used brakes. [well, maybe not quite, but the floorboards were rusted through in a few places. Floor mats kept most of the water and frost out]

Paid more for the stereo [in-dash cassette deck!] than the car. But isn't that how it goes.
