Maybe not... The design may be different on the 94+ Q, but I know it needs to be done on the 90-93. If it came that way from the factory on Geoff's Q, I'd assume it needs to be done on the later Qs as well.

Bad news Wes... check out EM-20 in your 94 service manual. I think they're just referring to the "half moon" area regarding the RTV.

Hmmmm...... That certainly sucks, if I messed up....... However, I dont think this will be a big deal..... Ill keep a close eye, no leaks so far....

Man, this is the first time NICO has steered me wrong, I was assured in other threads that I DO NOT noeed to use RTV on ANY of the rocker cover gasket.

It's been brought up before that there *may* be a mistake in the manual regarding the use of RTV on the covers. Manual writers don't start from scratch. They take the earlier version and make changes and ammendments to it. Sometimes things get overlooked. If it's an error (I think it is), then it would likely apply to the plugs too. There must be a gasket under the entire perimeter of the cover, regardless of whether it's rubber or RTV. I just don't think there's any reason to do both, and I know there are good reasons to *not* do both.

The main reason I did partial RTV on my 95Q was because the factory ORIGINAL job had done the same!

I just realized that (I think) the pic Heath is referring to is the one showing the placement of RTV under the plug. I think this is correct since the plugs have grooves on the underside to maintain bondline. In earlier posts I was referring to there not being a need to put RTV under the cover itself. --Just wanted to clarify.

Yes my Q originally had RTV under the plugs, but also around the rubber gasket at the half-moons at front.

I replaced my driver side valve cover gasket this weekend along with spark plugs. It was hell, But I did it. I was going to pay to have it done, but I needed to save that $600 and do it myself. I worked on it all day Saturday. Man, there were a lot of hose, hose clamps and elec. plugs. Just as I feared, I got it all back together but it would not crank. Seemed not to be firing. I left it for the night. The next day I found the problem, the #5 ignition coil connection was not all the way on. I re-assembled everything and it fired right up.

I did notice the idle was a little rough. I hear a slight vaccum leak from the back of the intake plenum. prpbably that hose that plugs into the back of the valve. I will replace it when I do the passenger side valve cover gasket. I will have to remove the intake plenum. Can I use the old plenum gasket or do I have to get a new one?

You will want new plenum gaskets. To help insure tight fit on spark plugs, loosen flange that holds coil pack in place enough to swing out of the way. Once packs are on tight, swing flange back into place and tighten all.
