I own a 98 Infiniti I30 and it still runs great.
It recently had a starting issue so I had the starter replaced.
It now starts and runs great, but I have noticed that the remote key and the factory alarm system is not working as it should.
They worked perfectly until the starter was replaced.
I searched online to find out how to re-program the remote key and none of the methods seems to be working.
It's not really a major issue and I should be able to drive my car without those features but I would like to know if it's an easy fix.

Has anyone had a similar issue?

Thanks.

Changing the alternator should not cause such problem. Any 'accident' happened during alternator replacement? Did a 'live wire' touched a ground? Is the hood closed sensor (driver side, area behind headlight) still in place?

Below is a link to the forum 'sticky' re programming key fob.

loystock,

Thank you for your quick response.

As far as I know, there was no 'accident' that happened during starter replacement.

And the re-programing instruction that I found online is pretty much the same as the one in the link that you have posted.

However, I could not get into the programing mode whatsoever. I have tried multiple times but I have not seen any hazard lights flash.

I wonder if disconnecting the battery and resetting the computer would help.

You may have a problem with the BCM (Body Control Module) and related systems like IVMS (Integrated Vehicle Monitoring System, Remote Control, Anti-Theft, Power Window/Door Lock, etc. Check the related fuses. Refer to the link below and start with the wiring diagram, on page EL-139 onwards, and then you can go thru the BCM and IVMS, etc. Pages EL190 & 191 shows the BCM input/output.

Thank you loystock.

It looks a bit overwhelming, so I probably will have to give it some time this weekend and try to figure it out.
