Can someone please give me an average price to pay for a mechanic to replace the drive shaft with a new one for a 1994 300zx convertible.

Parts, labour etc...

Thanks.

I had my aluminum drive shaft swapped out with a used steel one piece so I could re balance and install new U-Joints on the aluminum one. I believe I payed just over an hours worth of labor. so approximately 150 dollars give or take. I suppose it depends on the labor price. The shop told me it was a very easy straightforward process. drop the exhaust, unbolt the shaft, and put the new one in. I just don't have a garage to do the work in.

I have since had the aluminum one re installed. If you need a steel one piece drive shaft for a 2+2 5 speed I'd be happy to sell it to you 75 bucks plus shipping.

Hope that helps you a little bit anyway!

If you have an aftermarket cat back system, you don't even need to drop the exh to change out the drive shaft.
Most will have enough room to slide the shaft out. A shop will typically charge an hour or so if the bolts aren't too stubborn.

BTW a 2+2 drive shaft will not fit a convertible (2 seater)

I was charged $900 to replace drive shaft.

Now I'm told to pass smog. It's an extra $1000 to do knock sensor.

There I just saved you a bunch of money. Ill take cash or money transfer, lol. Yes replacing the KS is a detailed job and honestly 1k for the job really isn't bad to put in the stock location. Chances are its just a wire.

$900 to change a drive shaft!!! Holy Sh*t. Was the new driveshaft made of gold?

$1000 todo the KS in the Oem locations sounds fair, since top half of the engine needs to come out. And/or transmission drop too.

It is a REALLY bad feeling when you realize, then is confirmed, that your VG30DE or VG30DETT needs seal, sensor, injector and harness replacements along with general further maintenance due to the costs of each procedure.
That's when you realize where every other Z32 owner who modifies their car begins, because you DO NOT EVER want to go back into that thing to that level again, period...and costs are so high already that just doing it all right and at once makes the most sense in all ways.
