I went to this tire kingdom since it is the only one close to my house. My cam position senor kept giving me the CEL p0014 cam position sensor bank one so I went and had the four sensors changed. For the past 3 days the same codes keeps popping up after they said they changed all four. I had to explain to the tech that the Infiniti's take four and he tried to tell no I had to show him the diagram of the engine and he still said it was wrong. After the 3-day and waiting another 5hrs, got the car and within 30min of driving regular and hard, the light came on again. I read the code and it was the same code that came on 3 days ago. So I pulled the battery ground cleared all codes drove for 30min again and it came back on with the same code. I cleared it again last night and this morning the light comes back on going to work. Since they worked on my car, it take 30 sec for a push start to turn on. When the car turned on fine before they touched it. They also tried to tell me a brand new 14-day-old battery needed to be replace. Do not know if they changed all four or just to two top easy to get to sensors. So now, after $300.00 I have to go to the dealer and see what they say. I wasted 10hrs and two days for the same results. autozone part# su12938 all 4 it is only bank 1 that keeps throwing the code p0014.

I think part of the issue is P0014 is actually for exhaust valve timing control... the cam sensor is just 1 part of that whole system. You could definitely have a solenoid or other electrical issue as well. Its essentially an oil pressure control solenoid, so if there's a clogged filter upstream on the supply side of the solenoid, that could also be an issue.
It'll be interesting to see what Nissan says.

Just went through this in the OP's other post, his exhaust controls on an '09 VQ are mag draggers and not hydraulic. They're also infamous for dying without notice, so he probably needs a new mag core.

It's a magnetic clutch which drags on a plate attached to the head of the exhaust camshaft, causing the shaft timing to retard. The correct name is a Magnetic Retarder. When you buy them from Infiniti they come as a whole cover assembly with the magnetic clutch (core) already installed in it, but Nissan sold just the cores for the Maximas ('09~'14 as I recall) as a service part. Hitachi made all the retarder assemblies, so I'm pretty sure it was the identical core on all models which used them.

thanks i found it. you posted on my (sound like a truck) post. I figure try the vvt and if code after this thing. Im sure 200 for part and then finding the cheap price labor will be the issue. it look like 7 bolts but then i see where ppl had to take belts off to get the cover off.

Hello, so went to my friends Midas shop to get the cams synced. he couldn't read sensors?? He asked if they were Nissan 23731-JA11A-cam sensors. I said no got them from autozone. #su12938. SO I guess i need to get oem sensors for the codes to go away ???

The sensors don't read directly, the ECM reads them and then a scanner sends out a PID requesting the info. So either his scanner has a problem with your car, or I have no idea what he's talking about.

Thanks VStar650CL Hello Denso 196-4001 installed. car starts right up no 10 sec try. runs great, no light for about 3miles then the cel came on.did the oil change, did senors-that fixed the startup, did the vvt on bank1 not bank 2 since there was no code for bank.code is still there, p0014 camshaft position,,,, dtc 20024. how long does it take for the ecl to clear itself.
I did the whole press pedal 5 time thing, did the negative battery thing. it comes back after about 20min-30min of driving.

P0014 isn't a sensor code, the sensor is just one of the things that can cause it. About 90% of the time it's caused by a bad mag dragger, and that's probably what you have.
