I am helping my son who recently bought an 83 ZX turbo. We are trying to remove the halfshafts to replace the boots and I am having a helluva time getting the shaft out of the differential. The FSM says to pry with a suitable steel bar. I got one side out but the other is a bear. Any tips? How hard can I pry? Thanks for any quick help you can provide. We are on a short fuse to get this one fixed.

take two flat had screw drivers one on each side and give it a few good pops. You're not going to hurt anything, it's cast iron and hardened steel you're prying against.

sometimes when something is together for 30 years, it sticks, 2 tips, one hit the shaft wiht the bfh and drive it into the diff, the idea is th unstick the circlip, after driving it in and trying to pry out if it still won't budge, get a piece of pipe or a pumch and try driving it through the diff, the open diff should be pass through
