School was snowed/iced out here in central Texas so they cancelled school on my campus. So like so many other students that live on campus we thought we would go to one of the many empty parkng lots and do things with our cars.

I went to the parking lots way in the back and started doing donuts and "drifting" on all the ice. So neways after awhile a policeman came and gave me a ticket for "recklass" driving. I dont know what recklass is but reckless driving usually involves some kinda endangerment of other people. The damn parking lot was empty cept for 2 cars parked WAAAYYYYY at the other end. You can see how far those 2 cars were in the pic? So who was I endangering?

545.401. Reckless Driving; Offense

(a) A person commits an offense if the person drives a vehicle in wilful or wanton disregard for the safety of persons or property.

Neways turns out I wasnt the only one that got a ticket but everyone else I know that got the ticket got a call within hours sayin that they were dismissing them all because the police officer should have been giving out warnings not citations. I didnt get one of these calls though.

I dont believe i was harming or putting any property or people in danger. Does anyone here have any Ideas?

But really, thats pretty stupid...

take it to court man. if thats the actual legal definetion, then you *should* be OK... assuming the judge is sympathetic.

I'd say get one of the people with the dismissed tickets and print out that picture. Take it to court. If the owner of the parking lot wasn't complaining I cant see how you'd get in trouble.

I have recieved a reckless driving ticket along with a improper start on the same citation.I took off in a 1993 S10 4.3l pick up and roasted the rear tires in 1st 2nd and 3rd(the tires were a bit worn-no clue why??)I thought that the improper start was valid but the reckless driving was BS.When I went to court I couldnt get out of it.They said that I was observed by the officer driving reckless so hence the charge. So it was all what the officer procieved as reckless.Sucked cause reckless driving is almost as bad as DUI as far as the point system goes.GOOD LUCK fighting it!I hope you winBTW I did get out of a reckless driving charge one time also. There was some "catch 22" in the defination of reckless driving that said you had to be on a paved serface.(I was on a golf coarse)???Got Lucky I guess???

seems like reckless driving gets thrown around though. . . if theres not a specific term for a moving violation . . . they can be asses and deem it reckless driving . . . .

I heard the "wreckless endagerment" ticket cost like $300 something in Al and you have to appear in court. Good luck on your appeal.

You might get off if the officer does not show up for the court date.If your fighting it then the officer must be there to present his side of the story.Depending on how big of a city/county your ticket was in this could work in your favor.I got out of one this way.;)

I am a driving example of what not to do..Ive lost my license twice, once for going over 26mph over(6 month) and once for too many points(1 year). Then I got my license back and straightened up!In the 8 years since then ive only gotten 3 tickets and went to traffic school twice so only one went against my license. :icesangel

i was doing the same thing in a smaller parking lot and there were 3 other trucks and a cop rolled up and I asked him if we were doing anything wrong and he said it was fine as long as we didn't break anything :-\ ? Roads were empty and I later passed that same cop doing 50 in a 35 (really wide road & i wanted to see how fast i could get it w/o lossing too much control) and he just waved. Sounds like u just ran into the wrong cop

Well Officer Reeves showed up here at the *** crack of dawn (7:00) to tell me that he had been thinkin about it all night and decided that he didnt want to go through with pursuing the charges and that he would dismiss it as a warning if I gave him the yellow copy of my ticket back. SURE I DID. Only thing is that sounds like a BS story . . . Im pretty sure out of all the tickets that he gave out yesterday he didnt stay up all night thinking about mines . . .especially since when I answered the door he still asked for "Miguel" and didnt know it was me standing in front of him.

Oh well, who am I to question it . . Im just happy I dont have to worry about that damn ticket . . .:icesangel

YEAH!!!! two days and no school! I go to TCU down here and I went to one of the empty freshman parking lots near the back of the campus.last night i was drifting around and got near the entrance(which is near the top of the hill) and the TCU police came by to stop me. i started downhill and then counterclockwise to go back up the hill and the cop was folloing me. he had to slow down and stop to prevent hitting one of the parked buses. i finished getting out of my turn and got out of there while the cop tried to start going uphill from an almost stop

snow/sleet IS THE BEST! :D

yup..i'd hate to say it..but i'm doing pre-law right now...i'm about go hit up law school...if what u said is the definition, then ur screwed... i forget about everything u put down, but u are being disrespectful to property in it too....hence, donuts on their property..i'd still try to fight it though. were u a **** to the cop?? maybe thats why u didn't get a call back.

also, reckless doesn't have anything to do with "other people" either...it has to do with ur own personal safety. Could flipped or something...

Catch my drift? lol, i had to throw that one in there... :)

errr your a couple post short dude . . . . he came by himself this morning at the *** crack of dawn and told me he was going to just leave it as a warning. No, I wasnt disrespectful to him either. Even when I dont agree with what Im getting pulled over for Im usually very polite to the officers cause Im just another person to them so they could care less what I think they usually already have their mind made up as soon as they get out of the car if they are going to give you a ticket or not.

Usually polite . . .there are some police over here that give you some dumb *** reasons for why they pull you over. Has anyone ever been pulled over because they "looked" like they didnt have a liscence or they "looked" like their stickers might have been expired. What do these people look like? How would you know if my stickers were expired from way the **** down there.

I got a ticket before here in CA and went to traffic school. IIRC, the instructor said something about parking lots (I think he was referring to mall parking lots at the time) being private property and therefore you can't technically get a ticket for whatever would be considered illegal on regular public roads. Does anyone know about this?
