IMHO, having personally rebuilt 2 MBZ automatics and a number of Chevy,Ford, Chrysler autos and a couple of 4 speed manuals, , the devil is in the details.
Never done a Q45 unit tho-but don't expect it to be markedly different. You HAVE to do your homework before you start--study and learn where 'the tricks' are. Every transmission has one or more tricky/sensitive areas that will bite you.
The MBZ transmissions take a solid 8 hours for a GOOD experienced transmission tech to go through (not including the R&R). There are just a lot of steps and parts to remove, inspect, measure, clean, and reinstall. I would expect similar for the Q45 units.
If one had 'hard parts' damage-grinding sounds, etc, I would not attempt a rebuild of that unit--you will NEVER get it clean enough and the hard parts are super expensive. You HAVE to have a spotlessly clean working environment to reassemble the units-absolutely no dirt, lint, dust, etc.
