Hi,

So, I got myself another ca18det but this one is RWD, Got a good deal on it $200 bucks as it had very low leakdown test results. I will convert it to FWD.

So, I am rebuilding it to replace the current FWD ca18det in my car due to bad rings(lots of blow by) and headgasket after some serious abuse which lasted for over 5 years.

So, I took the new motor apart and I am in the process of rebuilding it, got new rod bearings, main bearings, oil pump, water pump, idle pulley, new rings, I am keepin the stock pistons as I know they handle the power that I want. HKS head gasket 1.2mm, arp headbolts, I ported the head (Thank God for Dremel tool), but I will be sending it to the machine shop to get a 3 angle valve job done on it.

I painted the block and the oil pan black, but then I got a black metallic paint which I sprayed the block, hopefully the heat won't make it peel off.I thought I share some pics,

When I get the head cleaned and machined, I will get some more pics.

sweetness. i have the same oil filter on mine...

i know the machining of the head takes off like 3/1000 's of an inch, but about how much would that affect your compresion?

Well, I am not sure exactly how much machining will take off, but I am using a 1.2mm metal headgasket, which I believe it should be thick enough so if I lost a bit on the head shaving, the gasket thickness will make it up.But the main reason I am sending the head to the machine shop, is because I want a 3 angle valve shop done as well as I want to replace the valve guides as some of them look really rough.

Regarding the oil filter, ya, thats the same one came with the engine from Japan, I did remove it and empty it, but the reason it is there is that I don't want to accedentally hit the oil filter threads on the engine and damage them, so this way it is protected by the filter, might sounds weird, but with my luck, things usually get hit or damaged by accedents all the time.

Ya, I got every thing on the engine, alternator, a/c, cut harness though, turbo, all sensors....etc. The rings were siezed due to bad head gasket which leaked anti freeze to the cylinder walls and over time while the engine sitting without being started, the rings seized, causing no compression test, when I stripped the engine, I had to soak the pistons in brake fluid for 3 days in order for me to be able to remove the rings from the pistons.Cleaned it all and now it is in a tip top shape.

Hi Mikey,

I am doing the same thing to this engine as I did to yours, but with a bit more mods to the head, other than that, every thing should be pretty close to the same setup as yours.

When you put the engine in your , you need to drive over and go racing at the track.

O, by the way, that paint I am putting on this engine is the same as yours but different parts of the engine are painted and THIS PAINT IS GOING TO GIVE ME AN EXTRA 10HP, but I am also thinking of putting couple stickers on the engine and may be on the car and will gain another 50hp lol, (Honda Mentality)

Well, I am looking for the same hp that I currently have but with a fresh more durable built, I am aiming around 270-300hp max.

Currently I got a T28 turbo, 550cc injectors, fmic and jwt ecu, bov, z32maf and fuel pump, but I am hoping I can get my hands on some T28BB to reduce the lag a bit, I am hoping also to try and tune the engine a bit more to gain few extra hp.

Not all SR T28's are ball bearing.

what does a 3 angle valve job consist of?

Well, Here is my point of view on the 3 angle valve job, please feel free to post your own, as not too many people brought this subject up and I did itfor a reason stated below.

I did the 3 valve angle job to have the valves sit more properly which illiminates any leaks that the valves might have due to being used head/valves.

Here is what they do, they remove the valves, and they shave the sides where they actually sit on the head at 30 degree angle, they also do the same thing for the head where the valves sit, this creates a better seating/seal and it will reduce if not illiminate any leaks that might happened. There is a myth that say, doing a 3 angle valve job will increase hp due to the more effiecent air/gases flow, but that is just a myht, yes it will will help the gases to flow a bit better, but not enough to increase hp or to notice it.

Most of the used heads that you send to the machine shop to get it shaved or cleaned, usually do the 3 valve angle job to create a better sealed combustion champer.

I believe people use this term as it sounds "mysterious/ fancy", not sure if thats the word I am looking for lol.

I am awaiting for the dam HKS headgasket, otherwise it would have been done Today.

I am hoping I will receive the gasket some time this coming week, then I will have more pics of the engine assembled.

Thanks,

I notice you do not have the oil cooler/heat exchanger in the oil filter connection. Are you going to use an external/remote cooler?

One question about the HKS gasket, I thought this gasket needed O-ringing?

Working on a CA myself also..

Hi,

Ya, I don't have an oil cooler and I am not planing on getting one at this time, I didn't have any problems with headgasket and I didn't have to use any o-rings.

I am putting the engine up for sale including a RWD 5spd transmission, I need the money to invest it in my z32 TT conversion.

Your engine looks sweet, what specs are these pistons? What mods are you planning on doing?

Thanks,

I always thought the 3 angle job was done just to improve flow rather than sealing as the faces only contact on the 45' cut, the 30' and 60' are just there to smooth the transition and the two 30' cuts angle away from each other as do the 60'. It probably doesn't make much difference on a blown engine but it has to make it more efficient.
