I plan to rebuild a KA DE and need some pointers. The engine will be used for a circle track car and will get raced a couple times a month.
First off, the motor must be "stock" by the looks and be N/A. So all I can really adjust is timing and bump up the compression. The plans as of now are stock block, shaved head (0.010-0.015"), porting inside the IM and the head intake ports a bit. The engine has to be built on a budget because there is a $1000 claim rule on the cars. So I dont want to spend much otherwise someone could walk away with my car. So I dont want to get into pistons and rods unless the donor engine is shot. If there were affordable cams that could be an option but I'd rather race first and see where the car gearing runs at before choosing a cam design.
Is 160-180whp possible with N/A by raising compression and keeping the stock ECU. Thats about what I'd need to be competetive against the lighter cars. The RWD will help me pick up a couple tenths in the corners but the escort GT's and neons are 1800 lbs so even with weight reduction Im facing an uphill battle. Any suggestions on finding some cheap power would be appreciated. Thanks!
