I recently purchased a new project car, a 93 Nissan 300 zx convertible, with about 110k (broken odometer). I've been going through the forums gathering information for issues that I'm dealing with which has been extremely helpful. So I'm new to this forum as well as the 300zx experience.

Last night as I was driving home, I suddenly started getting a rear end drift which almost put me in the median. Once I pulled over I noticed that the drivers side tire appears to be misaligned. The tire is pointing in from the front (out to the rear). When I got home, I looked under the car for some sort of damage but there wasn't anything noticeable to me. I didn't have it on any jack stands, so I had a limited view. I was looking at replacing the shocks on the car this fall, as they seemed a bit worn to me. Could a damaged rear shock cause a misalignment of the tire or should I be looking for something else? I do know that at some point in time, the car was in an accident on that side as I can see weld marks. thanks for any help that you can provide.

thats what the rear suspension looks like out of the car. i would guess that it would be the bushings wore out, but you should inspect all the parts.

Welcome!
It sounds like the toe adjustment lock nut came loose, you can check in the online service manual for how to adjust the rear toe and correct that enough to get to an alignment shop for a final set. I can't remember exactly where it is tp guide you now, but have found it through the OSM and adjusted mine in my NA.

Moved to Technical Forum.

Also, jack the car up and make sure there isn't any play in the wheels.
