Rear pathfiinder hatch won't unlock with the ignition key

Recently I discovered the rear hatch on my 2001 Pathfinder will not unlock with the key. The lock turns and I hear a distinct click, but the hatch will not unlock. Using the key fob or the manual lock/unlock switch on the door will open the hatch. Before removing necessary trim to access the lock mechanism, it would help if I knew what to look for. I am thinking there is perhaps a linkage of some kind that has broken or disconnected. Any ideas?

There are separate linkage rods for the cylinder and actuator. Red is the cylinder, blue is the actuator:
