Hello,

I'm new to the forum and I was just wondering if you guys could give some information. I was just rear ended and I was wondering if you guys could help me out with some of the questions I have?

My Car:

1995 Nissan 240sx

Scenario:

I was stopped in traffic. A Saturn compact sized car was stopped behind. A white Chevy mid-sized SUV slams into the Saturn. The Saturn is slamed in to while she is pushed/rotated into a 90 degree angle on the road. The white SUV (which happens to be a Taxi cab SUV) has his whole fron ent rip apart. The back of the Saturn is torn off. Bumper about 10 feet away and its right rear wheel broken off it's axle. My trunk is some what smashed in, my bumper cracked on the bottom, right tailight broken and my rear view mirror popped off. I later find my muffler is dangling (the little holders broke, and there's a crack on the chasis underneath. I think it's where the spare tire is held.

Questions:

Since my car is real wheel drive, could a rear end accident effect it?

What other areas of my car should I get checked? Someone told me in a rear end accident your transmission could be affected. Is that true? (I have an automatic)

How much do you think it would be to fix the damage?

Is there a chance the car would be deemed "totalled" considering it has over 104,000 miles on it and it's blue book is around 4000-5000 i think?

If there's any other information, websites, suggestions, or help you could give me it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for any help. I wish I could have found this board a little sooner. I've been goign to 240sx.org for a while and I never thought to check thier forums. Well once agian thanks for any help. By the way I'll be attaching a picture of my car and if any could tell me how to attach multiple pictures I'll add more later on.

Thanks,Adrian :D

I think most likely it will be totaled. I would buy it back from the insurance company though. Theres alot of things that could be affected from a rear end collision. You will have to take it in and get a quote.

Thanks for the reply and the welcome. Wish I could have found this board while my car was still in good condition. Oh well. Any idea on how much it would cost just for the trunk, tail light, bumper, muffler and fixing the bottom chasis alone? Or any other information on the above questions?

Also I attached another picture. It's of the part underneath my car that's cracked. It's a small crack but I want to verify what part of the car it is so if anyone could tell me what that is and how much it would be to fix or replace it that would be great? Thanks.

One more thing , Call a yard like pick-a-part or whatever is in your area and ask them for prices on bumper , muffler , and tail lights. (hopefully they have other 240's ) As far as chassis and trunk you would have to call a body shop and maybe a welder (im not sure) . Hopefully some of this helped. Also i dont know if you have tried searching yet for possible answers , that will help as well.

What happins in a rearend collision on a rear wheel drive car (if it's bad enough) the rear axle will push into the drive shaft and that will push into the trans wich may knock loose the torque converter and damage the engine(it happend to me). From the picture though it doesn't look that bad. But if the body work cost more than what the blue book value is, the insurance company will consider it a total loss. That crack looks like it's were the spare tire is at, in the trunk no big deal if it is. I would hit up the junk yard get the trunk and bumper myself and throw it on, two people can do the trunk in about two hours. probably a little longer for the bumper then take it to maaco

well, it wasnt your fault, so just take it somewhere and get a quote to get it back to 100% and then get the cash from the insurance company and pay for the car to get fixed. What you have is definately fixable. From what i can tell, it doesnt look like your transmission would get messed up.

I saw an s13 on ebay that was totaled because the guy was hit from behind and where the spare tire fits was folden in a little...didn't affect the driving of the car but the insurance company totaled it because that piece requires cutting and welding to replace and isn't worth it in money when they could just replace the car,...of course yours is worth a little more so they might try it~

This is all pretty good stuff. I definitely agree with b240. Should the insurance co. total it, definitely buy it back and if nothing else you have an excellent parts car. That is, of course, should you want to get another 240.

Now that you have found the board, you have opened yourself up to learn a wealth of information from a bunch of people that care about one another. I have yet to post an issue I was having to not get 5 replies with suggestions. Welcome aboard!
