Hey guys I got a dilemma. I recently pulled the rear end off of a 2005 subaru wrx impreza hoping it would be a great addition to my garage inventory. Downside to this is I'm not totally sure about what it is. I've done a little research online trying to figure out the specs of it but I can't really crack it. I was hoping you guys could help out. here are some pics.

any info would help thanks!

The ratio is 3.9:1. 39 teeth on the ring gear, 10 on the pinion.

for the record I believe the r160 has only 1 side bolt on each side and was available in older subies, I don't think they have used the 160 since the 80's but I could be wrong

I can't say that it's hellical without seeing the internals, you might be able to search the interweb to determine if the hellical was stock for the imprezza, remember the imprezza and the wrx are 2 different models here in the states

I did some research but am not finding much about this particular diff. sites don't have detailed pictures of the casing and markings. One site claimed in text that the 05 subaru wrx impreza had a viscous rear diff. but no pictures were available for me to identify if it were mine or not. This is really tough guys. lol.

where sis you get the diff? earlier you said that you pulled it form an "imprezza wrx" which was it, was it an imprezza or a wrx?

i couldn't identify the car by VIN's or anything since the front half was chopped. I can confidently say it was a wrx.

so you don't know the year or model the diff came from? look through the output shaft holes, does there appear to be a washer int he middle?

not so much of a washer, from what I see I just see the snap ring for the axles. There looks to be a recessed area where a washer could go, but im not too sure. here some more pics.

If it is anything other then an STI then it is a R160, stock WRX runs 3.90 final drive as was said before (however it runs 1.1:1 center and the rear is listed as 3.54 and not 3.90). Check out this post, scroll down a bit and it will tell you what you need to know http://forums.nasioc.com/forum...65334

FYI only STIs ran R180 every other 2.0 and 2.5 Subaru made from 2001-2008 ran a R160.

I just did a drivetrain swap on my WRX and did a lot of research on this. feel free to email me if you got any other questions man.
